Silverwood's motto to "Challenge and Cherish" is manifested each and every day in the way the staff and faculty interact with their students. Students are challenged in every subject at a level that keeps them on a comfortable edge pushing them to succeed beyond their expectations and inspiring them to discover new interests and pursue their individual passions. Students learn to investigate the world around them while building skills that allow them to truly excel in the world beyond the walls of Silverwood. Students are cherished at Silverwood because they are viewed as an individual a child with his or her own distinct set of skills, talents, and opportunities to grow. The staff works together to support every family throughout their time at Silverwood and nurture personal relationships that result in a collaborative community for each and every student. In short, Silverwood is the village it takes to raise a child.
One of the things that drew me to seeking employment at Silverwood was the beautiful and unique wooded campus and the atmosphere of creativity and joy of learning I both read about and personally witnessed. I couldn't be more pleased with the freedom Silverwood gives the staff, students, and families to explore learning in a setting that encourages individuality and resilience. I'm grateful for the opportunity I'm given each day to challenge and cherish the children at Silverwood School. This place is awesome!!!
Yes, sending a child to Silverwood is a sacrifice -- it's not "free" like public school. But when our child comes home from Silverwood and says "I like school" or "Math is fun", it is all worth it.
My son and I think Silverwood is the best school in Kitsap County, without a doubt. He is in his 3rd year at there. Playing in the woods is the best part of the school , says my video-game addict who rather goes outside when at home. Teachers who truly care and challenge my son, are the reasons that causes us to forego other things so he can attend. I strongly recommend any parent interested in getting the best education for their child, to contact Silverwood School.
Silverwood School is changing my daughter's life. My daughter was lost in a sea of students and standardized testing. She was being labled as just below average but good enough to pass. She got the message loud and clear. She started acting the part. Now that she is at Silverwood she is learning to love learning again. She is finding her own pace and her own path. She is feeling her individuality and embracing what makes her special. This place is a valuable choice in our community.
My son is in first grade at Silverwood and he is loving it! He attended a private Montessori for preschool and kindergarten and did very well in that environment. I was afraid of having him attend a public school and getting lost or overlooked because the classes are so big. He's great at staying on task and loves doing the work, but he is like most other children who need positive feedback from their teacher so that they don't lose their enthusiasm for learning and I was afraid he wouldn't get that in a public school setting. His teacher, Ms. Brenda, does an excellent job of letting him know her expectations for him and He absolutely adores her. He loves going to school every day and has made lots of new friends. I can't say enough positive things about the school and its staff. I definitely recommend Silverwood to all of my friends with children!
Silverwood School's motto is "Challenge and Cherish", and I have found that to be true every day for my son. He has attended Silverwood since 1st grade and is now in 6th grade, his final year. Every one of the outstanding teachers knows him as an individual and helps him to achieve his best work, in everything from math and science to art and reading. He is light-years beyond where he would be in a public school at this point in his life, and I know that the foundation Silverwood has helped him build will give him a strong base for success in his future education and life.
Silverwood School has been a safe and caring learning environment for my daughter. She is challenged daily in her academics. The campus is beautiful and a perfect place for inquisitive minds to explore and learn from their environment. The teachers make learning fun, whether it be Jackson Pollock marble paintings or jumping rope to practice spelling words. It is exciting to see my daughter love to go to school.
Our son started at Silverwood in his first grade year and he is now in 5th grade. Private school is a sacrifice, but definitely one worth making when your child gets the Silverwood experience. Our son's not afraid to raise his hand in class when he knows the answer, he's excited to extend his learning beyond the classroom to the point of going to historical sights that he's discovered during class projects while on vacations , and he loves going to school every day. Silverwood is a small school so there is a lot of parent participation, which makes families as a whole invested in the school. Every year the kids do Young Authors, Wax Museum and other projects. There are the basics of reading, writing and math as well as art, music and Spanish. I am confident that our sacrifice in sending our child to Silverwood School will last him well beyond the 6th grade.
Silverwood is a wonderful school where my son who now is in second grade has thrived by leaps and bounds socially, educationally and emotionally. The teachers give him the one on one time he needs and we are so happy that we have found such a great place for him to be!
I have 2 daughters at Silverwood, one in 6th grade, one in 2nd. My 6th grader started in Public school. We were very disappointed with her public school experience-I was doing all the teaching at home. I was going to pull her and home-school her when I heard about an opening at Silverwood. We are thrilled with the school- the student:teacher ratio is 9:1, and the teachers are warm, caring and inspiring. My shy daughter has blossomed in the safe environment, and the parent community is outstanding. I am a very demanding parent, and yet the school has met all my expectations. It is more than worth the tuition!
Our son recently graduated from Silverwood. He and his peers are now at various middle schools and junior highs and are thriving academically, socially, and emotionally (while still being normal and often grouchy young teens, of course!). Like our son, most of the members of his graduating class from Silverwood have become involved in student government, academic and social clubs, community service, and advanced coursework. Returning to Silverwood to volunteer in the classrooms is popular among his friends, and this says a lot about their feelings toward the school. It was worth the financial sacrifices we made.
In addition to a top-rate academic program that is Montessori-inspired with plenty of hands-on and experiential learning, Silverwood offers an 18-acre campus with greenhouses, arboretum, pond, student gardens, and woods - a virtual laboratory for science and wonder! Since 1984, children have been encouraged to become 'academically fearless' (term borrowed from an alum's testimony) and to explore their own best ways of learning. Literacy and higher level thinking are highly valued and nurtured, as is community service, ecology, and diversity in all its forms. Recess and play are part of the 'work' of students. Specialists teach Spanish, music, and art (the on-site kiln is my daughter's favorite.) The school and parent community is very welcoming. Also available: a before- and after-school program, volunteer opps, and parent education classes. [Grades 1-6 and approx. 10:1 student:teacher ratio depending on grade.] SO very worth the tuition and any related sacrifices. Some financial assistance available.
This is our second year at Silverwood and we are extremely happy. Excellent teachers and staff, a lot of individualized attention, great learning atmosphere.
We are the parents of a first-grader, coming out of a Montessori pre-school/kindergarden school. Silverwood has surpassed every expectation! Our child is nurtured and challenged in every class. She works within a pod of 'like' learners, but no child is singled out because of ability. Each child is challenged, and the small class size reflects in the learning and the program delivery. The campus is exceptional as well. It fosters movement to different buildings, outdoor learning and excellent physical activity. The campus is not only an excellent physical plant, but a large 'family' place. Parent involvement is expected, and a wonderful addition to curriculum. When asked about her first day of school as a first grader, our daughter said, 'I loved the integrated studies class'! We couldn't be more impressed or supportive of Silverwood School.
