My daughter is in Kindergarten and her teacher does a great job at answering any questions i may have
I love all the staff here at McAlder. They all go above and beyond for the students. All questions I have had on my childrens education have been quickly answered and if there are problems a situation is quickly found. I love that my kids are eager to go to school each day. I also love how they let parents be involved.
I couldn't be happier with the way this school is run. Kay Gallo is an excellent principal and all of her staff that I've interacted with are equally as impressive. They really take a personal interest in the kids and my girls have always had great things to say about their teachers. Jeannie Larberg is wonderful and has been such a positive influence in my daughter's lives that I'm forever grateful of her. I've had to waiver my kids in, as I'm on the border and I'm so thankful that my waiver has always approved. I love this school!
Office staff and K and 1st grade teachers are amazing. We have elected to attend another, vastly superior school out of district, however - bullying became unbearable last year, and communication between teacher and home was non-existent.
My daughter started here in 3rd grade and has said she feels she is learning more here than she did at her last school. She was a bit behind the other students when we moved her to the new school. She did very well on her 3rd Grade WASL. There are only a couple of things I don't like, one is the entrance to the school. It is not locked ever, nor are the back entrances. Someone could walk right into the school without being noticed as there is a door that is always closed that goes into the front office. I think this is a safety issue. There are also many portable classrooms. I do feel they do a great job motivating kids to do their best.
This school is absolutely amazing! Great teachers/staff. I am amazed at how much my kids learn. i would deffinetly send them back if i could!
McAlder has a sense of caring and compassion for the children who attend. Emphasis is put on citizenship and accountability for actions. This school is great!
Compared to the school we came from in another state, I would have to say this school is lacking. It is unbelievable how out dated and non existant the technology is. There is very little communication from the teachers and principal to the parents. In a district with such expensive homes and thus high taxes, you would think they would update and modernize their older schools before building a brand new administration building. Makes you wonder where their priorities are.
My daughter is in her second year at McAlder. Our experience started with a late-summer email to the principle to inquire about full-time K. Her response was incredibly warm and encouraging. Her teachers have been very enthusiastic and fun, they are the reason she loves school! The principle, the office staff, and faculty are all very personable and easy to work with. And the curriculum is advanced but not so much so that anyone feels left behind.
I had the same incident occur with my daughter there about the lunch money and agree there could be a change there in the policy. However, aside from that fact I think that my daughter has thoroughly enjoyed her years there at McAlder and especially Mr. Was's class. I would like to see more sports offered to the children that are in 2nd -4th grade as well. There seemed to be sports offered thru the school for the 5th & 6th graders but none for those below. Besides that I found Sheila and the other ladies in the office to be quite nice and helpful.
My son went to school here, in 2001. I would not recommend this school. The staff were completely rude. I remember my son forgot his lunch money one day, and he called home and ask me to bring it. (I work nights and was sleeping) I asked him is there anyway it can be paid for after school. I hear him ask. Then he says, if you don't come I will only get a juice and a granula bar. So of course I bring him money. This was about 1/2 though the year. He had never forgot his lunch money before this. That is just one example of how on caring the staff was. (my son was 7 years old) His teacher was very unorganized and sloppy. I also visited the school. Must of the time, I would hear other children swearing or calling their peers names.
