I love our school , office staff is amazing ....teachers willing to work with us to improve students ability ...my kids love it here :-]
I have two students that attend this school and this will be the last year my children attend. I have had so many problems with prinicpal since my eldest son started there. She seems to single out certain kids and once they are in her scope she will find any tiny thing and run with and make it bigger than it really is. My sons first year there I walked into the school find his teacher with her hands wrapped as tight as they could be around my sons wrist holding his arms behind his head walking him face first into a brick wall, when this was brought the the attenton of Meyers she did nothing about it. I cant wait to be out of this school.
We moved here from Oregon and my boys love this school. They made friends very quickly. The teachers have been fantastic and super responsive to mine and my childrens needs. I have no complaints at all. In fact my kids have done better at this school than they ever did at their old school which was rated a "10".
I was not surprised when I saw how many parents complained about CVE! Between my youngest and eldest I ve had a child at CVE for 9 consecutive years. When my eldest was there it was impossible to resolve issues, I had to get the superintendent involved. It s been so much better dealing with the junior high and high schools, the principle and staff have been so much better! Now I m having the same issues with my youngest at CVE, when he had issues that needed resolved. The principle and teachers act patronizing and your not respected as a parent. So I ve again had to go to the superintendent s office. This time we are switching schools. CVE has some of the lowest WASL scores in the district as well as the state. It seems to me they really need to look at making a change with the leadership at CVE!
My child had a 'bumpy ride' in the 1st semester of last year, however Principal Lyla was incredible with how she managed the issue. I commend her for her leadership in a difficult situation. The following two semesters were great and my child excelled. The PTA begs people to assist in volunteering. These are unpaid volunteers and give what they can. Quite possibly they are just simply inexperienced.
The PTA this last year was horrible...where were you? Where was all the fun activities that use to happen a few years back. When were the meetings, I did not hear of any. The kids miss it, the parents miss them. Let someone else run the show if you don't step up to the plate this year! The teachers are still great and some are retiring so young blood should come in slowly. Still over crowded.
I'm so disappointed with the teacher moral at this school. The teachers are very grumpy and impatient. They are not looking out for the best interest of our kids and that makes me sad. Thank God we have so much parent envolvement.
This school has a good parent base involvement. Teacher quality is questionable. The leadership is the worst I have ever experienced. I also see our best teachers leaving to work in other schools or districts. It is very disheartening.
We have had 7 yrs(K-6) to use our eldest child as a 'test' to see if things would improve at this school. Shame on us. In my heart I would have loved to see Cascade View be a great school but it needs help and words fall on deaf ears. Best of luck on your decision.
This is an amazing school, with excellent teachers and a great principal. I can't believe all they are able to accomplish, and I appreciate the individual attention children receive. The principal knows so many kids by name and is often there to personally greet and wave goodbye to them. I know it seems like a small thing, but it matters and I know it's not easy for her to block out the time in her day. It seems like there is a real sense of family at Cascade View, and the kids are thriving.
I've been extremely patient with this school for the last 6 years. They have had challenges with teacher retention, curriculum and teacher/student qualification. Every school has these challenges, but it is how the situations are handled that counts. Not only does Cascade View not communicate on the issues directly affecting our children, but they deliberately hide this information and only let it out at the last minute. This unfortunately comes too late in being able to make intelligent decisions regarding our children's education and future. Three years running there have been major changes in our children's teachers/curriculum, that had we known, we would have made different decisions regarding their future. This problem is systemic and starts with the principal. Until that change is made, this school is doing a disservice to our children. We are done with Cascade after this year.
I am so surprised to read the negative comments on this school! Our children have been so happy there over the last 6 years, and we feel they have received an excellent foundation to their education. The teachers are excellent, the principal is fantastic and the environment has been unmatched from the standpoint of safety and discipline. I would (and have) highly recommend this school!
I agree! and i want to add to the last persons comment...Just try to get any resolution at the superintendent office, it will not happen. This school and district are horrible! it is amazing that every parent in a certain class, can meet with the principal on the same issues and she will never acknowledges that there is even a problem. Same line to every parent. 'Oh you are the first to have ever complained about this' or 'i have never heard that before' even though you know many parents have gone to her about this exact issue!
I have been at the school for 6 yrs. It kills me to say, we are leaving next year. We have 2 kids in the school and have hoped that it would get better with parent involvement. No changes. We are not going to have our next 2 kids go through what our eldest has. Yes, I know there are going to be challenges where ever we go, but I am hoping to find a school with good leadership that listens to concerns. Too many good teachers have left or are going to be leaving this coming year.
I pulled my kids out of CVE and put them in another school in the district. What a difference! Wow! The atmostphere is better, the teachers are wonderful and in tune with the kids and parents. The principal is fantastic. While there are some great teachers at CVE, most of the teachers dont' care and the principal heads up that sentiment. If you love your kids, don't send them to Cascade View Elementray.
It is time that something is done! Get rid of the principal! Hire better teachers! Update our curriculum! Dr. Mester, nothing has got better since you came along. It is time the parents take control and demand changes right now!
Great parent participation in PTA, but quality of education is less than average. There are both excellent and weak teachers, and if you aren't lucky enough to get the good teacher for the grade, your child will suffer the consequences. The principle seems great when you meet her, but if you don't follow up with her, then nothing will change. Consistency within grade levels varies greatly, and overall there is great lack of leadership in the school. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone except special needs kids. There are excellent programs for this population.
I completely, totally, 100 percent agree with the last comment! I must have had the same issues with the principal you did. She isn't there for the good of the school. She is there for herself alone! Bravo to you for speaking up!
04/05 was our first year at Cascade View, and we were really pleased. The staff was always friendly, and the senior administration very open and approachable. I felt that all of my concerns were addressed quickly. I loved my kids teachers; Riefers, Briskee, and McPeak. The principal is a super women. I think that any school you attend where staff knows who you are and who your kids are, and not because your kids are in trouble, is great. It shows a real connection to the kids, parents, and community.
It's amazing how a parent who doesn't have anything to do with a particular school can get on this site, and make comments/rate about the school. I wouldn't go by any of these comments, you need to find out for yourself by personally viewing the school atmosphere. Why would a parent want their child to attend a school, where so many parents that are 'whinning.' Sounds like a private school is more up your alley or transfer to another public school where I am sure you will experience the same problems or worse.
