Stanwood Elementary School

My boys went here for two years and they enjoyed every mintue of it. From the teachers the the students to the lunch menu. The staff are so nice and caring. They took the time to figure out how to connect with my youngest son which helped him open up trendously. And I don't think my oldest has ever been in a better class. He made so many friends. Some of the teachers have children that attend there too which i belive is a plus. They are parents as well as teachers. I couldn't ask for a better school for my kids.

The principal at this school is very involved and personable with the kids, staff and parents. The teachers are good. The specialist teachers however, some do not want to be there or single out certain kids. This school tends to encourage and praise the kids who get good grades, but the kids who are involved and excel in sports are not allowed to use thier athletic ablities and interest when its time to go out to the playground and need to get their energy out. Infact they are held back from using thier abilities at school because its 'not fair to the other kids' or else the playground teachers dont know the real rules when it comes to sports. You dont hold a child back that excels in academics because its not fair to the other kids so why hold the active/athelitic kids back from doing what they enjoy.

The principle and teachers are nice, but too many misbehaved children, the curriculum is 'abominable' per a retired educator who I have review my children's schoolwork at the end of each year. If the educators and administrators really want their schools to have higher ratings and real learning to occur, then it would remove everything from the classroom and curriculum that is not truly value added and they would keep the children in line. Teachers leave the children alone in class! Schools are too intrusive into family life with activities and they do not educate. Instead, they indoctrinate with mostly socalialist ideals and essentially babysit. They just teach kids how to go through the motions. If this is not true, then ask why so many students with the highest grades still have problems with college entrance exams and why so many teachers are just as upset.

Having transferred my children from out of state to this school was a very smooth event. The faculity went out of their way to do everything to make them feel welcomed. The principal is very engaging with the students and knows each of them by name! The teacher's really do care about each student and their success. The PTA is very engaged and supportive of the school, staff and students. Overall this school has kept the focus where it is supposed to be, on the student and the student's success.

(1) Quality of Academic Programs: lessons were interactive and multifacected; (2)music and arts were part of weekly lesson program, sports were not part of school program, but school made parents aware of sports and extracurricular activities. 3) Parents were very involved in school activities.

A wonderful school to have children in. There is alot of teacher support, wonderful 'specialists' programs, in house tutoring for those that need it, and a cutting edge reading programs that lets children progress at their own rate. I have seen many parents helping out in classrooms and getting involved at this school. The recess supervisors are excellent and always very watchful over the kids. The principal has a wonderful relationship with the students and keeps good lines of communication open with parents, students, and staff. On top of all the other positive things that this school has going for it... the office staff, lunch room staff, and even the janitor and nurse are amazingly upbeat and cheerful whenever I see them
