I can not express enough how much i love this school. I am a military child have been my whole life and have attended to many schools to count. Steilacoom High School i still talk about. never have i experenced the Spirit this school has or the friends i have made there or the sports that i was involved in and the choir is absolutly superb. This school has made me reach for higher goals in life and work harder. I was invovled in so many things there such as Key Club which is dedicated to volunteering anywhere and everywhere and the Choir is amazing theres a non audition choir, Sentinels, a auditioned womens choir, Celestial Singers, a auditioned mix vocals, Pinnical, and a show choir, TPS. The school is extremly clean and has excellent technongly eveery clasroom has a smart board. even WoodShop has a smart board! The teachers are dedicated to the students and the school was just compeltly re-done with new halls more lockers and a new football field. There is RARELY any violence and the kids taht graduate from Steilly all have bright futures and will make society a better place. I highly recommend this school anyone.
I love this school so much, with great students, extremely low violence and with the small amount of students, a great environment. There is newer technology and the only thing it could really use, is a pool. The teachers are fabulous and it has a brand new turf football field complete with track. Steilacoom high school is located in the small and historical town of Steilacoom. I am a student here and its the best high school in the area. It has been recently renovated and enlarged and is extremely clean. GREAT SCHOOL :)
Steilacoom High School is the best high school that offers more credits to graduate and offers an array or high expectations from teachers to students. All of my relatives have gone to Steilacoom and now have a bright future. Not only Steilacoom is known for being successful in WASL trestings or academics, it is known for having the most spirit and talent in sports.
My son is in his freshman year at this school. I find that the education is poor to say the least. For example I reviewed some of his work. On two assignments, his rough drafts were both a D, then all he did was type word for word and miraculously received a A- for both. How is that two different assignments end up with the same grade? Also my sons teast scores are low, but in every class his daily assignments and homework are always an A to A+. Another teacher gave him a B for a test he never took. Its ridicules, on how the teachers are teching our students, give them all A's we don't care if they learn, that their motto. I want my child to be prepared for college and that will not happen at this school.
I enjoyed my years at SHS as a student and now my children are attending. Many of the same caring, compassionate teachers are still working their magic. There is also many new, ethusiastic teachers to make up a wonderful balanced staff. Administration & staff (especially safety and attendance personnel) are helpful and responsive. I thank them for their care of my child.
This is such a wonderful school! The principal knows the first name of every student and greets them every morning! Parent involvement is in the 90 percentile! We know that our kids are great!
SHS has been a disappointment for my daughter. We move frequently and she has had the opportunity to attend schools in different areas. This school is not friendly for transferring students and does not consider the opinions of the parents or students to be of importance in placing the student in a class thats right for the student. This school also feels that if a student has been placed in the wrong class, they should have to stick it out for a full semester and accept a failing grade for the class. They don't believe that a failing grade is important they say it's whether the student is 'getting it or not'. Personally I feel if the student is failing then obviously they are not 'getting it'.
Steilacoom is a very good school in this area. I don't think I would want to go anywhere else than there. The staff knows the students, just as the students know the staff. Even though the school is small, there is a lot of parent involvement and student involvement with sports or extracurricular activities. The student body could have more school sprit but we have fun either way.
This is a great school. The Teams are state champs and scolastics are very good. Our daughter and son graduated from Steilacoom. Daughter did so well that she was able to complete 35 college credits while attending her senior year.
As a graduate of Steilacoom High I would have to say that attending school there was one of the best times of my life. I had the oppotunity to participate in countless activities due to the size of Steilacoom High. It is without a doubt that without graduating from Steilacoom I would not be attending a prestigious four year University and be doing very well.
