Both my children attend Brown's Point. I can't say enough great things about it from the incredible teachers, to the caring staff, the friendly school climate, the robust PTA, the famiiles etc. The principal is not as warm as others I've met but she is fully present and is truly caring. I moved my kids from a private school three years ago into Brown's Point and that was the best decision our family has ever made. I highly recommend this school.
I love this school, my child's learning is outstanding, she is an outstanding and smart student. I owe it to the three years my chid has spent at Browns Point, she has had 3 wonderful teachers. This is the best elementry school in the Tacoma School District, hands down. The only complaint I have is some of the kids that attend that school are very snobby, stuck-up, and not well behaved. It amazes me what 'rich' parents teach their kids to say and do to other kids. Its very sad......'Claim to be Christian' but your kids are judging other kids, which is against the bible. 'Thou shalt not judge'
This is an excellent school with incredible parent participation. While the faciltiy is older, the classes have huge space. The teachers are caring and attentive and the kids are well mannered with very little discipline issues. 4 of my children have gone or are currently enrolled and I cannot say enough good things. The PTA in this school is amazing!
This is an above average public elementary school. Is it stellar, no, but that is more a problem of district standards than ineffectiveness at the school. While Mrs. Thomas may not be the warm, fuzzy type, she is present at everything and takes her job very seriously.
I disagree that Mrs. Thomas is not hands on, I have a student who has had some challenges staying on track, she has always been at meetings and called me with concerns. Only complaint I had was with one teacher. My son had an excellent teacher and the following year I was a little disappointed. However, all around I would say it's a good school.
Browns Point is a good school. Some of the the teachers are exceptional but not all. PTA and parent support is strong. Principal Thomas is not hands on and you will very rarely see her.
This is a GREAT school! I went to this school as a child and my children now attend. I recommend this school to anyone looking for a good school for their child.
Borwns Point Elementary is amazing! All of the staff, teachers and PTA make this school what it is today. I would not send my children to any other school.
Both my children attended Browns Point from K to 5th grade. We loved the school, staff and teachers. We could have moved anytime but chose to stay in this school and neighborhood.
Great school, tremendous parental support. Dedicated teaching staff with noteworthy music and PE activities.
Wondeful school! great teachers! Awesome PTA! very high WASL scores!
This is school is outstanding in all aspects. Consistently high WASL scores; wide variety of extra program addressing art, science, technology, foreign language, etc. Parental involvement is over the top - has one of the largest PTA's in the state. This school is filled with a staff that understands the power of gentle correction, encouraging words and pushing a students limits for growth not for competition.
Browns Point has consistently scored at the highest levels in the WASL's. They have a large PTA membership with deep parental involvement and community building. The teaching staff works hand in hand with parents and PTA to provide an enriching education for the children.
Brown's Point is a wonderful school. The teachers and staff are caring and welcoming. My children started midyear, and were welcomed wholeheartedly by students and teachers alike. Real learning takes place here; my son has many project-based activities, which is much more stimulating than what he was offered at his other school. I highly recommend this school.
Browns Point is an excellent school with exceptional parent involvement. We have 3 daughters that attend ages 10, 8 & 6 and we are very happy with the education they receive. Of course you get out of it what you put into it and my wife is very active at the school. She has been involved in PTA for 4 years and she signs up to help in the class rooms of our kids. She also started a kids running program that has been welcomed at the school by the staff and students. We feel we have a good overview of the school from outside as parents and inside as volunteers and the school is great!
Browns Point has been a wonderful environment for my daughter. We made the move from private to public and have never looked back. The staff and teachers have worked hard to meet my child's needs and she is thriving! We feel so fortunate to have found Browns Point and recommend it highly.
I have two children who attend or have attended Browns Point. I have always felt like a partner in my child's education at this school. Parent involvement in the school, both in the classroom and in PTA/extracurricular activities is much higher than in other schools I have compared through conversation with friends. Teachers have always been open to suggestions or ideas I have had for my children. The administration office staff has always been extremely accessible, helpful and genuinely kind. I have found the teachers to be professional and forward thinking. Our experience has been very positive.
I am the parent of a special needs kindergartener in Ms. Nelson's class and this has been the absolute best year! I have 2 grown children and this school as a whole is the best I have seen. My son has been welcomed with open arms throughout the school. The teacher even called on her lunch time the first day to let me know my son was having a good day because she knew I was nervous. This level of dedication has not changed in any way and I am so excited that we are a part of the Browns Point elementary family. Thank you to all the staff and families for making it such a great place.
I have had two children who attended this school. Brown's Point is not strong in special education. This school lacks certified special ed teachers, school has a strong 'whole language' bias to teaching reading, and teaching methods are outmoded and not researched-based. I would avoid this school if your child has any special needs, although I believe Mrs. Thomas is trying to change the entrenched, elitist culture of this school. (The quality of special ed services vary widely between schools in the Tacoma Public Schools, so parents need to visit any program proposed for their child. and make sure the progam will fit their child's needs.)
