My school has a great reputation and I couldn't agree more. The staff truly cares about the kids and teaches the basic values that seem to be missing from today's society. I never been to a school where every child is happy. I am at ease when my daughter is at school because she is not only getting a great education, she is safe. I recommend Concordia Lutheran School and will continue to send my daughter to school there.

We were a new family a couple of years ago and the teachers helped our kids to find others with similar interests. Our kids got involved in activities and do well academically. Their heads and hearts are filled. The teachers have helped to make sure they are challenged academically. Kids don't have to leave Jesus at home. There is a lot of parent involvement and teachers go beyond the classroom (coaching, refereeing, helping with the scoreboard, LEST). I really feel like the teachers love their jobs and do their best to help the kids succeed. Of course, Concordia isn't for everyone (no school is perfect), but check it out! It might be for you!

My daughter loves to go to school. She is always engaged in her learning and excited to tell me what she did at school. Not only is she getting a wonderful Christian education, but she is loving learning and making new friends. The school also has teachers that have been there since my generation and the principal was even my 8th grade teacher! So there is a strong family community in place and teachers who are passionate about teaching. The school is next to a police station which provides a sense of safety. The programs and the athletics that the school offers is top notch with coaches that have had many years if experience. The extended care program is also convenient, while still instilling Christian views and giving the children a great before and after school experience. I would highly recommend this school to everyone and anyone.

All the staff and teachers I have ever encountered have all been wonderful. Everyone seems to really care about what is best for the kids and very patient. The atmosphere of the entire school seem to always be upbeat/happy. I can't say enough - Concordia is a true blessing for my children.

Concordia Lutheran School offers an excellent education. The class sizes are small and they offer individualized help for children with learning issues. It has been a great place for my three children.

I was referred to this school by my son's doctor since he needed smaller class sizes and the availability of one-on-one academic assistance. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this school. The entire staff has taken a collaborative approach to helping my child and they are fantastic about keeping me up to date on his struggles and his successes. We decided to have our son repeat Kindergarten to gain more confidence both academically and socially. I never would have been able to do this at a public school, or even some other private schools. He has blossomed at Concordia and I know that we made the best choice in sending him here. His teacher not only helps him learn new things, but she truly loves all of the children in her class. The entire staff is warm and welcoming and they take the time to get to know you on a personal level.

A small school with an amazing technology base and teachers who recognize that each student is an individual and excels in different ways. We wish we had found Concordia Lutheran before 6th grade. The emphasis on educating kids in a well rounded manner and encouraging multiple friendships is second to none. The only thing really holding back the school is the loss of the lunch program, which was unable to keep up with current Federal dietary requirements within a reasonable budget. There is art, music, drama and traditional classes.

Concordia Lutheran School is a Christ filled school. The teachers care for each individual student and really go above and beyond to enhance their learning. We have been at Concordia with two children for six years now and couldn't be more happy with the academics, the social scene and the spiritual learning our children are being exposed to.

Concordia Lutheran Concordia is a wonderful Christ centered envirement where kids can learn about many things that other schools might not teach. Even thought the school is small, I think that makes us closer. Concordia is a family and I am happy to be part of it. I hope that the other students think that as well. The teachers are a blessing. They love all the kids and are great in crisis. They make learning easy and are very relatable. They always watch out for me and the whole school. No one goes anywhere unsupervised. Our principal and vice principal have Master degrees and soon our 8th grade teacher will as well. She also is currently co-writing a book with famous parenting book auther, Cynthia Tobias. All our staff works so hard to keep our school a wonderful place of learning and bonding between our family and God.

Our children have been at this school since pre-K (several years) and we are VERY happy there. I'm confused by some of the earlier negative comments. One says the administration lacks training in education. This is simply untrue--both the principal and vice-principal have Masters in Education. Another says the school is does not assist families (a bit vague), which again is the opposite of our experience. The parents are highly involved, with lots of volunteering inside and outside of the classroom. The school is very diverse, with a range of socioeconomic backgrounds-there are parents who went to school there, parents who never went to college, and parents with graduate degrees. This is really valuable for my kids (and frankly, for me as well). Finally, the school, as a Lutheran Missouri Synod institution, is conservative--more so than our family and church. But again, while we are much more liberal than the school, the emphasis on ethics, discipline and values--just being a good person and thinking about others--trumps by far any specific issues we might have about individual beliefs. Concordia is an oft-overlooked treasure in Tacoma. Check it out.

I've been a Concordia parent for past 5 yrs and I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about the school. I happened to read a few comments written by others and I have to say that I was very surprised to see any negative comments. I transferred my children to Concordia when they were 4th & 2nd grade, and yes, I was very nervous as this was a big change for them - brand new town, brand new school. But the anxiety went away in no time. Concordia teachers and staff teach their students with so much love. The encouragement and support don't just stop at the class room. It extends to football field, band room, choir practices, basketball court and dance practices. My children are getting excellent academic education (they both consistently score over 95 percentile in standard exams) but more importantly, I see them growing up to be a well rounded respectful young adult. I am thankful that we are part of Concordia family and thankful that my children are being taught and influenced by a great group of faculty and staff. My son just graduated so I now have only 2 more years with the school, but I know the experience and friendship will last for life time.

My children have been part of Concordia for the last 4 years I cannot even begin to praise them enough for the amazing job they do on a daily basis not just educating them but also celebrating their uniqueness all while maintaining a Christian environment. I am quite surprised by the last review, as anyone interested in Concordia can go to their website to see that all their staff are appropriately educated. As a matter of fact most of them hold higher degrees then are expected at private schools. You do not have to hold a PhD, MD or any other fancy title to be a school principal the one Concordia's principal holds actually exceeds private school requirements. One of the many things that really made an impression on me with this school is the number of past students whose kids and in some cases even grandkids are now attending Concordia they are not returning year after year since opening in 1948 for the name, they are returning because they love the school and all it offers to the kids and families that walk through the doors. I would invite anyone to come and experience Concordia for themselves and hope they would be as blessed by their experience, as our family has been.

Concordia has gotten smaller over the past several years that our children have been there and it really isn't the same place we came to know and love. As the school has contracted in size, personnel have been pared down so that there is really not much depth in staff (Teaching & Administrative), this is compounded by the fact that key administrative positions are not held by qualified personnel with training in education. The principal is not engaged and defers the majority of administrative tasks to others. The science (and to a certain extent mathematics) education is simply not up to standard, and busywork with an unsynchronized curriculum is the norm. The music and English programs remain strong, however. (leading to the 2-star overall rating) Parental involvement in the school is a strong point, but because of the relatively weak administrative leadership, this leads to difficulties due to the fact that conflicts of interest arise due lack of clear boundaries between staff, families and students. If you are looking at Concordia I would urge you to spend time at the school and make your own critical appraisal. There are other reasonably priced private school options in Tacoma.

I was a student at this school during the 2012/2013 school year but left because I was not welcomed, assisted, or treated well at this school. I felt, academically, they were not as good as my last school.

My child attended this school in the 2012/2013 school year. It was an unfortunate experience for our family. My child was not treated well at this school. The reception for a newcomer was not a welcoming environment.

My daughter has been able to grow and excel at Concordia over the past four years. The school is large enough to provide some real-world challenges, but small enough to provide deeper relationships in a place where she feels safe and free to be herself. Like most schools, we are Blessed to have several stand-out teachers that rock! Overall, we have an above-average staff. I feel like my daughter is not only learning but also building upon a strong foundation of values. It's funny, we are Catholic, but we've never felt like outsiders, nor has anyone ever made us feel different because we attend church outside of the Lutheran network. We aren't judged and we have made a variety of friends from a range of backgrounds. In fact, we are happy to have grown close to so many families - and though we do not live next door, it feels like a community; certainly some friends for life.

I have been a Concordia parent for 7 years. Both of my children have attended Concordia since Kindergarten. We have had an amazing experience in this school. In addition to getting a great education academically, they are turning into well balanced, well rounded people who care for others and who have developed a strong sense of who they are as Christians. I have to give credit where credit is due and say that the teachers at CLS have had a huge part in helping my kids grow into who they are today. If you are looking to provide your kids with a firm foundation for life, this is the place.

Concordia is a wonderful place. Teachers go out of their way to offer relevant learning and the Resource Room provides opportunities for kids who need help and also enrichment. Jesus is at the core of everything they do. The parent-teacher league is strong and active. My children have been nurtured and are very well rounded because of the education they received at CLS.

We transfered in from a smaller school, and I can not tell you how happy we have been with the Administration, the Teachers, the programs, and the educations, support and love this school shows every family. I really feel we have been blessed and plan to continue with them.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
