Tacoma Waldorf School is a community for our family. Both of my children are thriving and love school. Each cries if they have to miss a school day from being sick...who can ask for anything more? The academics of the grades program is brought in a multi modal way to reach the many learning styles of the children in the classes. Don't let all the pretty colors on the walls fool you into believing this is anything but a fully functioning learning environment which teaches children a lot while keeping the children engaged and happy to be there. I highly recommend to families looking for a healthy learning environment to come and check it out and speak with our teachers about all the exciting things Tacoma Waldorf has to offer. It does take commitment from families of time, talent, and treasure..but it is worth it.

After we had done the research on all of the local schools and we visited at least a dozen of the preschools in Tacoma and surrounding area, we decided on Tacoma Waldorf for several reasons. One was the focus on each individual child as a mental, physical and spiritual being; that the classrooms were filled with light, natural toys and the semll of freshly baked bread or homemade soup; that the teachers were so clearly invested in each child and how the Waldorf beliefs about child development allow children in the kindergartens to experience childhood as the fun, happy and magical time it should be. Children spend considerable time outside exploring the natural world and singing songs that reflect the task at hand. Academics come in the 1st grade & beyond and hebolder hildren are incredibly well rounded and take their work seriously.

We are the parents of a child here at the Waldorf School and have found there to be an excellent academic element in the higher grades (grades 1+) and the teachers are highly qualified. I find the staff to be welcoming to new families and very appreciative of the volunteering we have done. This is a small non profit school and as such they rely on everyone's help in making this school he wonderful gem it is. The arts, academics and a focus on physical activity and play make this school a well rounded place for children. And with little emphasis on testing, children flourish in learning ( and much of what is taught is the same as the public schools just tauht more creatively and interactively) without false pressure to conform.

Tacoma Waldorf School is the right place for your children if you are looking for a nurturing and natural environment where they can play, learn and grow! Green and eco-conscious practices and a suberb arts focus adds to this schools charm.

The Tacoma Waldorf School has high ideals and standards for it's conduct. By experiencing the same teacher throughout the grades, we know our child is nurtured and loved throughout the day by someone who really knows and understands him, as an individual, and understands us, as a family. The school, itself, is open, friendly and loving. It requires dedication of time and talent on the part of the families, but the rewards outway any stresses or inconveniences. Mistakes are made, as they are in any community or school environment, but what makes this school unique is their unwavering committment to the students, families, community and the other faculty/staff. They admit mistakes and do their best to fix them. This, we believe, is their strength. We've looked at other schools and there is just nothing out there that will care so well for our child while giving him an outstanding education!

Fantastic school! My children thrive in the supportive arts integrated atmosphere. Great support system for parents who want to be involved in the school community. I encourage anyone who is interested, to come in and check it out. It is a small school but growing with a big heart.

We have been at the Tacoma Waldorf School for 4 years have greatly benifited from it! Our son receives trained care and attention that is simply not available elsewhere. I know as I have a good deal of experience in the public schools. I say 'we' as the parent community is full of some amazing folks that greatly enrich the school. The place is a gem! They have some growning pains but it's quite a special place in Tacoma.

I can't say how truely grateful we are to be able to attend the waldorf school , after 5 years from pre school to 2nd grade at a local private school , my childs was not recieving any positive or confidence building experiences until now . he was barely reading and seriously dreaded school .after six months with a fabulous teacher he's reading very close to grade level and loves going to school .there has been nothing but positive changes in my son. mo schoolis perfect , but the parents and staff all seem to be like minded and there for the right reasons , their children , and the people they become.

I've enjoyed watching the children become so engaged in the wonders of nature and develope a wonderous amount of curiousity. The early childhood program is fabulous. I truly hope that they have the ability to continue to grow the grade school. My research of Waldorf education tells me that if children can get through the 5th grade they are far and above their public school counter parts. I would love to see the school grow to 8 grades.
