Jackie's kindness and competence help the school run as well as it does. She manages to remind you when you've forgotten to pay something or impart info about a kid with equal warmth.

Some teachers give too much homework. And sometimes they don't give parents enough notice for big projects. Most are reasonable.

The faculty and staff work to develop all of the above, but the the kids vary, as kids will. Some classes have developed more of a culture of kindness than others.

My child is challenged and supported. She's strengthening her interpersonal skills as well as her academic ones. The staff and faculty are warm without ever mollycoddling the kids. And we're very, very excited about the new head of school.

Jackie in the office is the only nice thing about Harbor School and even she hardly knows what she's doing.

The Harbor School
Teacher effectiveness: Ineffective

Uncertified teachers making things up as they go with no oversight, especially since they board fired the only head of school who got anything done around there. Those teachers are a joke to anyone in the profession. Especially the "social studies" teacher, the math teacher, and that random actor guy they've got teaching "Spanish" class.

The teachers talk a lot about "whole child" and "family time" and such. Then they load on the homework.

Develops grit: Disagree

Determination to get out of that ridiculous school maybe. There's no academic rigor. The teachers make up the curriculum entirely. Very few of them have current or any teaching licenses and that's a fact you can check yourself.

They teach kids to respect whatever the teachers respect. There's no real freedom to hold an opinion or to disagree.

Develops empathy: Strongly disagree

They talk a big game but it's just a bunch of spoiled kids with entitled rich parents when it gets down to it. I see plenty of kids crying at the end of the day and wanting to go to the public school with their real friends.
