We saw such an immediate positive change in our daughter within weeks of her starting at WMS. Over the five years that she's been there, she has shown more confidence and makes logical connections to concepts that surprise me for a seven-yr-old. She handles disagreements with others and communicates emotions better than many adults I know. The teachers and principal are engaged with the students AND parents. They encourage participation and input from parents. They treat the students with respect and the students, in turn, learn to treat others with respect, as well. I adore this school.
WMS is swonderful school. The teachers are dedicated and truly know my childrens learning styles. My kids are excited and happy to go to school every day!
Our son entered the Apple class in 2010 at 3 years old. I am incredibly impressed with the patience of the teachers and staff and how the class is so well run. Our son just turned 5 and has completed a year and a half at half days, which we changed to full days at the start of the year. We could not be happier with his development, confidence, exposure to languange, culture, geography, math, and concientiousness of his environment and others. At the start of the year we also enrolled our 20 month old; she loves being there and the staff genuinely interacts with the kids.
My daughter came to this school being on the shy side and in the last year, she has blossomed into a confident, articulate leader. The school is so nurturing and the teachers are hands on, even after hours by hosting events so parents have a chance to see the work their children are doing in addition to meeting other parents. My daughter is already talking full sentences in Spanish and the subjects she's learning at 5 years old is astounding. She LOVES going to school and I think she's bored on the weekends. A top notch school all around!
This school was a lifesaver when the local Jr High was not a good fit for our daughter. She fit right in socially and was finally able to really fly in all her subjects. The academic expectations are high and the teachers are enthusiastic.
Having been involved with this school for the past three years, I continue to be impressed with the high caliber and the dedication of the staff from the Head of School to the assistants. I recommend this school to discerning parents who want a well-rounded quality education for their children.
I would not agree with the previous reviewer. My daughter has thrived in the early childhood program and I found have the leadership very helpful.
This school is amazing! I am fortunate that it is very close to our house. The teachers are phenomenal, the leadership is strong, the students challenged and the parents are connected. What more can you ask for! The teachers encourage the children to work at their own pace with just the right amount of challenge. However, unlike many Montessori schools, you do not have a choice to only do your favorite work every day. Weekly work plans ensure children work on all area of their academic progress. One reviewer complained about class size, but with at least 2 certified teachers in every room the ratio is more like 1:12 them the 1:24 the class initially seems. The experience is different than public schools, so you have to be ready to be involved and follow your child s progress closely. I recommend this school with the highest marks!
I would not be who I am without this school.. especially jr. high. It is academically challenging and the whole community fosters nurturing. The teachers encourage you to learn about things you are interested in, and to pursue your passions. The students are truly accepting, respecting, supporting and amazing people. The hardest part is leaving though, after everyone gets so close. If nothing else, this school gives you a grounding that will lead you in the right direction.
We're so glad we found this school. We had been at another Montessori school for eight years, which suited us fine until one of our children began to 'fall behind.' The old school suggested she must have some kind of attention problem (the inattentive kind, rather than hyperactive)--that she ought to be tested to see why she couldn't cope with math being taught a grade and a half ahead of her actual grade. My daughter's confidence tanked, and she believed that she was 'dumb.' WMS welcomed us with open arms, and my child is thriving. She got help where she was weak, and was encouraged to push ahead where she is strong. My younger daughter slotted right in, and absolutely loves the school. The teachers and staff are wonderful people. I am so glad we're here.
My children have attended this school for 7 years. My oldest is now in the public schools and says that he learned to be organized and independent in his learning at Woodinville Montessori. I know that my children have been encouraged to develop their strengths and that the teachers care about nurturing the whole person.
I'm so glad we found this school. My son was in public school and spent much of the day fooling around because he got his work done so quickly that his teachers treated him as a 'success' and didn't pay much attention to him. Since he's been at WMS (several years now) I've felt every year that the teachers have been totally connected to him and made sure he was challenged. Since he has the same teacher for several years in a row, the relationship can grow and they're not re-inventing strategies for helping him. He's in the 4th grade now. There are about 40 students in his class, with 3 teachers and 2 aides -- a great student/teacher ratio. My younger one is in the preschool program right now, and thriving. He's so excited to show us what he's learned, and we love the reports from his teachers. Great school!
Not a bad school, but overrated and overpriced, especially for upper elementary grades. Class sizes much too big for a private school. Weak leadership; fear of conflict means problems fester and don't get solved. Low hiring standards so the quality of teachers is a crapshoot - we had great teachers most years, appallingly bad other years. More interested in being a feeder school for Overlake and Eastside Prep than adhering to Montessori principles. We're actually having a much better experience at the excellent local public schools.
This is a great school! When my mother assigned me to go to preschool at Woodinville Montessori, she didn't expect that she would sign me up for first grade too! I now am in 7th grade, and have practically been going here my whole life. The Junior High experience is amazing, and Sharon and Alaine are both remarkable teachers. Thanks!
Woodinville Montessori School is a community in the true sense of the word. Teachers and parents work together with the students' education as their highest priority, and stimulate the students imagination, making them love going to school. My son was doing 'okay' in public school, but we decided he deserved something better. WMS has challenged him to excel, given support in areas where he struggles, and overall provided an outstanding place for a child to spend 180 days a year. Both of my children now attend WMS, at the preschool and elementary level, and each are blessed with low student/teacher ratios, dedicated and enthusiastic teachers, and a school environment that genuinely respects the child as a person. The tuition is worth every penny.
This is an out standing school! I cannot imagine my son attending another school. Its such a stress free work zone. Class sizes are small, and children really have a chance to learn about everything.
I've been going to this school since 4th grade and am in 8th grade now. I have been to 4 other schools, but WMS has been the best so far. Knowing our teachers by more than their last names is really helpful, and the fact that we can work at our own pace and level is great.
What a great school and tremendous improvement over our experience with the Edmonds schools! My daughter had a tremendous 4th grade year this year, with a teacher who really understood a gifted child - unlike the Edmonds gifted program! JoAnn Munson, her teacher, rocks!
The Middle School, which is actually 7th thru 9th grades, has been superior in every way. The teaching team has an ideal combination of traits: warm and encouraging, disciplined with high expectations, knowledgeable, and caring. The curriculum is divided into 6-week sessions, and is creative, tying together multiple disciplines. For example, one session tied orienteering (outdoor sport where students follow maps to find markers in woods -- counted as PE) to geography, history of mapmaking, and a session on early explorers. Each session is followed by an immersion week outside of school where students get to apply what they learned. They just returned from 3-day internships where they got to explore different career paths. They've also spent an entire week in community service. My child has found herself, and has benefitted through this program. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
My child has attended preschool level for 2 years now. I give this school my highest recommendation with no reservation. Parent involvement is a requirement, but the quality of the school reflects the positive outcome of such support. Classrooms are clean and organized. Staff are very responsive and take time to say 'hello'. Teachers have a low turnover and high energy level, atypical of many schools at the preschool level. Tuition is very reasonable given the quality of the environment, instruction, and administration.
