To be honest to the student who mentioned below that they went through the AP program and did not learn anything, apparently you are lying, because the AP History program at East Hardy is top-notch.

Despite already writting a review on this site several years back, I feel compelled to return once again to defend my alma mater. I was reviewing some statistics which I think are indicative of the experience one's child will receive at EHHS. 1. 97% graduation rate. While I'm sure this varies from year to year, I think it is consistently 90% or above. This is even more impressive when one conisders that the school systems in the largest 250 cities in America have an average graduation rate hovering around 50%. 2. Over 50% of the students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, and only 10% of the community has a college degree. These numbers show that the area is not a rich one, and poor areas are usually synonymous with high drop-out rates. To maintain a 90% + graduation rate in such an area is exceptional.

As a student I was continually bombarded with the far christian right's outdated philosophies. the community is very intolerant and abusive to students who are not football players or farmers. I moved from winchester city schools in the third grade and never learned another thing. This was on the college prep track with all 'AP' classes included. What a joke.

Though we may have a small school. I do believe it is better off. In my years at East Hardy I have had a much better chance, to build a student teacher relationship. The school may be small but they are doing the best they can to stay up-to-date on technology. Each and every staff member has always tried to help me not put me down. Teachers offer to stay after school, set up meetings, or even buy you things that may help you at home (i.e. computer games for spanish). All programs are wonderful. Athletic's are very close to the heart of the community. As is FFA FCLA FBLA Spanish Club. I love EH!

Absolute lack of communication. Do not give any help when asked. Are extremely discrimanitive to anyone outside thier little community unless you come here with something to give thm like a good athlete that will get them in the media or attention but if you cant offer that you are treated in a very unwelcome manner. They have very old equipment that is outdated and do not offer anything remote to modern education but they like it that way and will not change.

I graduated from EHHS in 2003. While it was a few years ago, and hence some of the great teachers that I had have since retired, I believe the school to still be educationally sound. The small class sizes and intimate atmosphere are conducive to a good education. While there are some teachers that would certainly be fired in a competitive educational system, they fortunately teach only fringe classes. My core classes in History, English, Math, and Science were all excellent. Even though education is often not a top priority for many parents (and consequently students) in the area, students who apply themselves will emerge from EHHS well-prepared for higher education.

As a student at East Hardy I was able to interact with my teachers quite a lot. Many of them were eager to help and would always be available for meetings at lunch or some other free time. A few teachers put in extraordinary amounts of time at the school; teaching a full course load as well as coaching one or even two sports. The school's size can be a disadvantage: only one AP class was offered while I was there and while there was a decent selection of science electives, there were few in the liberal arts. The school offers enough extracurriculars that students can find something to do if they want to get involved. The vocational education program is also quite good. Overall, the school presents rather limited course choices but does allow students the chance to interact with teachers.

I moved from a large school here to EH when i was in 6th grade. i am now a senior, and i think the only bad thing about the small atmosphere, is that everyone knows everything about everyone else. other than that, the teachers are amazing, the principal is wonderful too. hes given me many chances when i might not have deserved them. i think that sports and extracuricular activities are great too. coaches work with you to help you acheave your goals, and help you to get your grades up so you can stay on the teams. the community is also very involved in school. and you get a WONDERFUL education, and amazing opportunities.EH is a wonderful school.

Having moved from a much larger, urban system, we found that our daughter was much more challenged at East Hardy High School than she was at her earlier location. The staff is outstanding and caring. The school is small with a low teacher-student ratio which lends itself to oustanding student-teacher relationships and learning environment. The principal is an outstanding disciplinarian who cares for his students. The band is truly outstanding for such a small school. The community is very involved and attached to the school. Athletics seems to be in its proper place, as academics seem to come first. College level classes are available through Potomac State, Shepherd and Eastern CC. There is an outstanding opportunity for a vocational education through the regional vocational high school. In an era where consolidation seems to have taken over public education, the smallness of EHHS is welcomed. A family atmosphere that is much encouraged.
