As an alumnus of the Academy, I have mixed feelings about the school. Education wise, it was a fantastic experience. My teachers were willing to work with me and do what they could to help me. They also took personal interests in my life. I was active in almost every club and organization, and always took advantage of the college courses available. When it comes to the way the school is run, I must relay a rather negative opinion. The school barely makes it financially from year to year. Students need stability, and to be able to know that their school will be there in the future. The basketball program is great, and having a diverse group of students is also a positive. However, the foreign exchange students are the reason the school is in trouble. Who pays for these students? Parents of every other student who attends.

This school is an exceptional place of education and what it stands for is far and beyond any school in the surrounding area. The academics are challenging and even inspirational to the students in preparation for their future. I have known several students who have attended the Academy over the past 5 years and they always had positive and exciting things to say about the school and their experiences there. They would express that at times it got tough but that is what makes it the Academy . Many also commented that the opportunity to take university classes during their high school years gave them practical insight on what to expect when they head off to college.

I am the high school English instructor for the Academy; I also teach theatre. The atmosphere is amazing because our students, faculty, and staff radiate the school with attributes to be emulated: self-confidence, respect, honor, and determination. I absolutely love the freedom to teach students authentic lessons about literature and life in a student centered environment which challenges students to think critically. Ms. Luker

The Academy provides an education higher than the surrounding area. Sadly the standards have dropped over the years.

This is my first year at the Academy. It's been a pleasant year. Most classrooms are small which allows a more personal learning experience. The only downside to that is a small range of people to be around and work with for a several years. I guess it brings experience in dealing with people. The school is culturally diverse which is pretty great. Most, if not all, of the students are nice and there is a sense of camaraderie. Now to the learning. I would say that I have learned a lot of new academic things. Some of the textbooks used seem outdated but most of them aren't. A lot of the teachers are enthusiastic and visibly excited about teaching their subjects. The opportunity to take college classes is unique to the Academy because there aren't any other high schools in the area that I know of that have that bonus.

I am a student at Mountain State Academy, last year was a walk through a park. But this is what the academy is known for and that's well-rounded eductation.

The Academy at Mountain State University is a good school that excels both in academics and athletics. The school is not very large but it gives you more one and one time with teachers. This gives you a better chance of understanding the material being presented. The teachers all care about their students and are very nice. The teachers try to help the students as much as possible. Overall the school is good yet it still has its flaws.

This is my first year at the Academy, and so far I love it!! The only bad thing that I could point out is that it is a small school and when the bell rings, the hallways are completly crowded!! The only other thing is that the locker room is too small. Other than that, most of the teachers are great.

This is my first year at MSA. I absolutely love this school, even though the school has its ups and downs. I have had a good year. Most of my classes are have about 10-13students, which isn t as bad as public school. You have more of a one on one with the teachers at MSA. All the teachers care about you and try to help you in any way they can. Even though our school is small, there is a diversity of the students at MSA. I think that diversity is really great. Most of the students here are great; there are really no big fights like public schools. There is also an opportunity of taking collage classes at MSA, which is a bonus. Most schools I know don t have this opportunity.

Mountain State Academy has so much to offer! The atmosphere provides a nurturing, yet challenging setting for the students. The hallway is filled with smiling faces, from faculty and students. I am proud to be a member of this talented team and would recommend it to anyone looking for an above average education.
