I am a former student of Herbert Hoover and it was truly an amazing school. The teachers and staff are easy to talk to and always ready to help. The principal got off to a rocky start, but was able to pull through and show students, parents, and staff that though he is strict, he's willing to listen and improve upon the school I'd heard stories about what the school was like and until I heard there was to be a new principal I wasn't sure I wanted to go there. The principal had high standards for all the students and kept those standards helping students who didn't have much hope of going to college find hope and the ability to go for the seemingly impossible. Being at Hoover helped me grow into a better and stronger person, someone ready to take on the world.
I believe that Herbert Hoover High School is the best school in Kanawha County. It has distinguished staff and teachers who are ready to take your children to the next level of education. Also any parents or students who are trying to decide whether to take there students to Capitol or Hoover my children have tried both and Hoover won in flying colors. Judy Stephens
As a parent who has had one son gradute from Hoover; who is now attending college on the Promise , I believe that Herbert Hoover is an excellent school. The teachers are very involved and caring about each and every child. My daughter will be a senior this year and will be taking college and advanced classes. There are many outstanding groups and Award winning performance activies to become involved with at this school. As a parent I am confident that the change in the academic program is based on facts and will only improve and Leave NO Child Left Behind. The current administration is very concerned and committed to helping our students be all that they can be. -Kathy Silber
I currently have 2 children attending this school (one is graduating this year) and will have another one attending next year. I am concerned about the curriculum changes being mandated by our principal for next year. There is lack of administrative/parental communication and parents are being forced to take concerns directly to the school board. My children have always been good students-honor society, honor roll, citizenship, etc. I was excited that Herbert Hoover was finally becoming competitive and offering advanced curriculum like some of the higher ranked schools. However, this is going to change--and the students that excel will ultimately be punished by being forced to repeat classes and we will become a remedial school; which will result in a loss of challenge and interest for achieving students. Lowering the standards---how will this result in an improvement? Now--all children will be left behind.
