My biggest criticism of GD Elementary is that the principal doesn't care. He is just putting in time until retirement. He is willing to settle for mediocre. Although there are many good teachers, the principal sets the tone for the school, and during the 10 years that I had children in GD, I saw the quality decline. He is especially indifferent to the needs of gifted students. As an upper middle class community, GD has more gifted students than average. The principal actively discourages the identification of gifted students before 4th grade level, and does not support the program. His comment to me was that 'it doesn't matter what you do with the gifted kids...they'll learn anyway.' I chose to pull my children out of the county school system based on their experiences at GD Elementary.
