the teachers don't care. i see them let kids just sleep through class. they only like your kid if he's on the football team.
Most of my assignments are fill-in-the-blank worksheets with no focus on critical thinking. There's very little appreciation for diversity or preparation for living in a world beyond little Grafton, WV. Sports and show choir are the only programs that receive any funding or attention. Academics are not valued at all.
This school is inadequate and offers nothing for students with problems. If your child has any problems or issues, they will be shown the door before they are shown any help. It's a wonderful school if you don't need any help and can basically teach yourself. This school needs to be investigated.
Grafton High school is a fairly large school with many extracurricular activities. While the academics are as high as some of the other High schools in West Virginia, I am still a loyal student that attends the school, and I have found that living in a small town such as Grafton can bring people together, more closely. Our acedemics might not be as high as so many other schools, and our school spirit may be decreasing, but that won't stop our athletic, extracurricular activities from soaring through the roof. I attend the school, and the students there are genuinly good people, and for the bloggers writing reveiws for this school, how could you judge us if you've never even been to our school? A person can't just say this or that about us without going there, finding out who we truly are as GHS students.
Grafton has one of the highest drop-out rates in the entire state, the teacher student ratio is good but that doesn t make up for teaching quality. Basically, if your parents are poor and you don t play a sport you will have it hard here.
As a teacher at Grafton High School, I think the athletics are great also. Undoubtly, there are teachers who could care more. I believe this exists at every institution. As for myself, there are approximatley 750 students at GHS and I am confident I could give 300 + names easily. In addition, there are many courses offered that challege students to use higher level thinking skills and push themselves to the next level. Unfortunately, not all students enroll in these courses. Parental involvement is an issue. But, I have always found the opposite to be true. We have a few extremely active parents and are unable to get more help. There are many opportunities: athletic boosters, choral boosters, band boosters, civic organizations, chaperones, office help, activity coordinators, tutoring, etc... The list could go on. I encourage any parent or community member who would like to help to contact the school.
Wow, grafton high school has a great athletic program, but academically students are just a number, administrators and staff probably couldn't name 20 students and put a face to them. Very disappointed in the opportunity for parent involvement at this school. Just because the students are older, doesn't mean parents can't be involved. Extracurricular activities are great at this school, academics take a back seat, get different teachers. One's with a personality and caring heart.
