Hometown Elementary is a great school and the principal has initiated several new and innovative programs that have been recognized as excellent in the state of West Virginia by the state superintendent of schools but also recognized Nationally. Did you know that Hometown Elementary was selected as a National Title I School? Did you know that Hometown Elementary was selected by the Kennedy Center of Arts? Did you know that Hometown Elementary has repeatedly had the highest writing assessment scores in Putnam County and in the state of West Virginia? There are many other achievements and awards that Hometown Elementary has received under the direction of an extremely hard working and outstanding principal. The school continues to attract outstanding innovative and creative teachers to the staff and continues to retain an absolutely outstanding staff. The children can't wait to get to this school each day!
I was extremely skeptical of a small school to begin with but once i moved my children here i couldn't be happier of course there are always things people want to change but i think for the most part we are very lucky to have this school around. The teachers are excellent and like i said before i do have a few complaints but its more personal than public. Thank-You Hometown Elem. teachers and staff! BMW, Hometown, WV
During the 2004-05 school year there was a wonderful kindergarden teacher Mrs. Peters. In the past several years there have been extreme changes. In year 2003-04 we lost nearly the entire teaching staff. The only ones to remain were the Phys Ed, music, and Title 1. We lost all core curriculum teachers. We also lost a great principal that year. The children are forced to walk on certain blocks in the hallway and during lunch they are not allowed to talk with their friends. It feels more like a prison than a school.
My granddaughter is in Kindergarten, and has one if not the best kindergarten teacher in the county. As far as the Principal goes, the school would function far better under another administrator. The students NEVER take field trips like the other schools in the county. Ms. Graham does NOT want parent involvement at the school. All of the parents I have talked with are very dissatisified with her.
