I am a teacher at Scott and have been driving 2000 miles per month to get to this great school since 1992! We are always first in trying innovative teaching strategies and often have the WV State Dept. of Education using our school as positive examples. We are a WV School of Excellence too.
Scott High School is a very well operated school. They are a very advanced school compared to the surrounding High Schools in the area. There is room for improvement, yes, but what school doesn't need improvement. It may not be one of the new consolidated school with a brand new building, but the quality of the education is oviously very excellent since they were one of only two High Schools to recieve the State Award for High Test Standards last year. I would recommend this school to anyone in the area. There are many acedemic scholarships that are awarded to Scott Students, which I think speaks for itself. Overall the school is an above average school with an exceptional sports program as well.
I would not recommend this school--I graduated from here and I feel like I was not at all prepared for college. I learned more in my freshman year at college than my whole 4 years at Scott. The sports program is sad as well---unless you know someone or your parents do, then you can forget about having an athletic experience at Scott High School. Some advice for Scott--Give kids a chance and teach, trust me you don't prepare us for the real world--no wonder we have so many on Welfare.
Quality of academic programs in general education is the highest in the county. Scott also has a strong special education program with as many as ten special education teachers to provide services to students with special needs. Music, art, sports and other extracurricular activities are provided. Football is the predominant sport. Level of parent involvement is low, even though parents are encouraged to participate in their child's education. Very few parents attend open house and parent-teacher conferences. Students show respect for teachers and discipline is a strong point for the school. The school is kept clean and neat and students and teachers seem to enjoy coming to school each day.
I personally don't think this school is really that great. My years there were awful, the teaching staff really needs help.I feel like they focus more on sports and preps than teaching. When i needed help with any work or homework it i never got it.
On a scale of 1-5 I give this school a 3, I personally don't think that they prepare you enough for college, alot of teachers don't take the time to really take quality time in with students, but then again some do. Room for improvement.
Scott High is a great school with a friendly 'small town' atmosphere. Many advanced level classes are offered with skilled teachers who are concerned about the futures of their students. As a former student of Scott High, I feel that upon graduation,I was well prepared to enter into a four year accredited college.
