Upon the written request of any parent or guardian, or for reasons affecting the best interest of the schools, a superintendent may transfer students from one school to another within the county (called interdistrict choice). Also, each county’s board of education has the authority to transfer pupils on a part-time or full-time basis from one school district to another (interdistrict choice).

Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher performing school in the district.
