I attended Nitro High School and I have to say it is definitely one of the best in the region. It offers a variety of AP and honors classes. There are also a large amount of extracurriculars to choose from such as band, show choir, guitar, ROTC, drama club, ski club, and many many more. The teachers are great and all of them are willing to help any student with whatever they need. Nitro is also one of the top technology schools in the county. Every classroom has a smart board and many classes have laptops and iPads for the students to use. The students and teachers are all friendly and welcoming and it isn't hard to make friends, even for new students. Nitro definitely prepared me for college, I kept a 4.5 gpa and my grades continued to remain high through university.
One of the best schools in WV! The staff is wonderful and willing to work with students. They offer a lab in the morning where you can go ask for help with anything or makeup work. The extracurricular activities are second to none, there are tons of sports and if you are an arts lover Nitro offers award winning programs such band, show choir, show choir band, jazz band, art class, and a drama club. Nitro also has one of the best JROTC programs in the nation recieving no infractions on their inspection in 2010 placing them in the top 3% of all the 900 AFJROTC programs in the world. I believe Nitro has prepared me for life beyond high school and is there for its students.
I've had three kids go through the Nitro High School system, and the experience was not a good one for any of us. Parent support is there, but you get the feeling from the adminstration, that they don't want you you helping out. They definitely don't do a very good job of identifying and helping at-risk students--a problem that originates with the feeder schools.
I went to Nitro and I am now a senior in college and will be going on to law school next year. I must say that I was very prepared by Nitro High to make the transition into college. I even found that some of my introductory courses in college were easier than ones I took at Nitro. Nitro has everything you need if you want to challenge yourself and prepare for a great future. Nitro may not have the nicest building, but they have some of the best teachers. Nitro also offers a wide array of extracurricular activities. I am proud to say I graduated for Nitro.
As a senior student currently attending this school, I must say its been very disappointing. Most teachers dont seem to know what they are doing, but some are wonderful and do teach well. They do offer AP courses and special education but credit transfers from any school to here are ridiculous and youll most likely have to repeat a class or more over. Parental involvement is limited. While the extracurricular activities are plentiful, the leadership is terrible and the administration is very rude and snappy. Rule enforcement here is almost neal. My going on 4 years here were not ones to brag about, I'm glad to leave in just a few short months
I must say, as a student that attends Nitro High I believe it is one of the best schools in West Virginia. Great sports and clubs programs, and a wonderful staff. All the teachers clearly know their subject and how to teach their subject well. They make it so everyone can learn too! Also, Nitro High is the only school that is committed to morning labs, where the students and teachers can talk, work out problems, or a student can get help on homework, or even just come in, sit down, and study for a test. Overall the students and staff at Nitro High seem to connect well, and the spirit and pride of the school is so high. Nitro also has a lower dropout rate than some of the High Schools in West Virginia. Good school, great staff, and a wonderful way to get prepared for the future.
Fantastic school. Principal and teachers are great and easily accessible for conferences. Great extra curricular activities.
One of the best curriculum schools in WV, I highly recommend this school. Great staff and student life enviroment!
