As an alimnus and the cousin of three students at the school, I submit that overall Shady Spring is a slightly above average and by no means an wxceptional school. The curriculum is adequate but not outstanding. The boys athletic programs run in cycles. The football team is in a transitional period. Baseball is successful. Wrestling shows occasional signs of its past glory. The track and field teams are average. Girls athletcs are highly successful, speaking in particular of softball and volleyball, girls basketball is somewhat below average but in a building stage. Academics are adequate. The teacher to student ratio seems to be acceptable. Academic standards are in my opinion average to slighly above average. A pastoral setting for the campus, good student safety, and similar socio-economic conditions provide a relatively close knit student body. All in all a good school with room for some improvements.
