Our Principal is very involved in making everyone feel like they matter! She values the teaching staff, and she lets them know that. She also knows and loves the students and is always available to help with an issue. The teaching staff is wonderful and motivated, and the students at Lakewood are happy and "anchored in excellence"!

Lakewood is the 20th ranked elementary school in WV! In the last six years, Lakewood Elementary has continued to see even greater enhancement of educational opportunities as can be seen by student performance & enthusiasm. The new Lakewood principal (1st year was 2012/2013) is energetic & focused on further expanding the educational excellence of our students. Outstanding teachers & support staff at Lakewood focus on ensuring each & every child feels their individual value & realize their full potential. Extra educational support offered at Lakewood includes Reading & Math Interventionists, Computer Technologist, Special Resources Specialist, Speech Therapist, Librarian, Art & Music teachers, PE Coach, & Counselor. Lakewood also offers 2 pre-K classes & hosts all St Albans area Gifted classes. Total student population is approx 250-275 students. Typical class sizes of 20-23 students allow teachers to spend quality time with each student. Lakewood, located in a quiet, safe community on a large wooded campus, offers outdoor learning areas, basketball courts, and soccer & baseball fields, giving children ample opportunity to round out classroom time with physical activities.

Lakewood has a dynamic new principal who is really moving things forward! She has rejuvenated community and parental involvement at the school. She greets the students outside the building every day as they arrive at school - rain or shine. New plantings, paint, and outdoor decorations make the school inviting and fun. The PTO and Local School Improvement Council (LSIC) are very active, working together with the principal to give our students additional community interactions such as service projects and hands-on learning opportunities. I am SO-O-O glad that my child goes to such an outstanding school!

I think this school is awesome! We have a new principal now and have high hopes for her as she has big shoes to fill. The staff are great from the principal to the clerical. It makes it so nice when you are a working mom to know that your children are being taken care of. I went to this school there myself and it just seems to keep getting better.

This school has great teacher that really care about the students. The staff take the time to get to know the students and everyone takes part in helping the students learn. The teacher work with the parents to make sure we know how to keep the children in the right direction so that each child can work at their own pace.

Lakewood has caring and hardworking teachers. It is an excellent school with a fine principal. It is located away from the city in a lovely wooded setting.
