Great school! 'Wilson Works', a program based on positive corrections, ensures success of students both acedemically as well as behaviorally. The bilingual principal is more than willing to relate and communicate with all parents to address any issues of concern. The principal has also had several engagements within other schools in the community to promote the 'Wilson Works' program in an effort to provide successful resources for local schools. The staff members support this program which requires them to give up some of their free periods to give additional help to students who are struggling. They truly care about the succes of their students, acedemically, emotionally and socially. Parents have the opportunity to meet with the principal/staff members on a monthly basis to discuss events, activities and any area of concern.
I go to wilson, and I love it. So please don't bash this school down unless you know how the students are doing, and what they're learning. I'd like to say Mrs. Alger is amazing. She's a math teacher for 8th and 9th grade (within wilson) She is hard core, and really teaches what wee need to know. Don't judge wilson until you know how the students are doing. Besides, schools are made for us, not parents.
Things at Wilson for special education are the same. I feel sorry for the teachers, as the previous person stated, their hands are tied. The administration dictacts what they can and cannot do, even when they know what is in the best interest of the child. The administration needs to be replaced. Wilson has fine teachers.
I agree with the last review. A big part of the problem is that the teachers' hands are tied. I've talked to a few of them. Discipline is something that teachers are no longer able to do in the schools. Most of them are frustrated and maybe a little disillusioned with teaching. Sometimes they have a hard time teaching because they aren't allowed to control the kids. The teachers my son has had are fabulous and go above and beyond, especially when you consider the circumstances. My son has a disability and the teachers are great. I think with the new principal, things will turn around. Hopefully that will happen before my daughter goes to school there. It will take time and commitment from parents.
