Effective school leaders: Strongly disagree

The deans are incredible. They know their students, both well-behaved and not well-behaved. They are trustworthy and approachable. The principal and vice-principal are involved, present and kind. The athletic director is hard-working, passionate and fun.

Develops character: Strongly disagree

- a
Students are held to high standards when it comes to core values. Respect, integrity, compassion, work-ethic and overall kindness are not only expected, but enforced.

Teacher effectiveness: Strongly disagree

- a
Teachers are approachable and easy to work with. They are always willing to help, and do not let struggling students fly under the radar. Students who are struggling are offered extra help during study halls, lunch hours and office hours before/after school.

Amount of homework: Strongly disagree

- a
Students are given a fair and manageable amount of homework. Students are held accountable for completing homework, and help is always offered for those who are struggling.

Appleton North focuses too much on unrealistic academic achievement. Need to submit your class rank to colleges? It's a shame that you attended Appleton North. If you do not have a 4.0 GPA you are already dropped to below 60% of your class rank, a 3.5 and you're under 50%. Appleton North feels like some sort of elite ivy-league prep school, and provides little help for average or below average students. The entire time I attended this school I felt inferior to my classmates; surrounded by stuck up brainy classmates. Appleton North needs to focus on a well-rounded education for all its students, not just those who are in AB Calc their Junior year. So unless you know that your children can handle these fast paced extremely high expectations, I suggest looking at another area high school.

All schools have their good teachers and faculty, but what sets this school apart from the others is that it has a staff that cares about their students' education as much as you and other parents do. I attended this school in 96 and grad. in 2000 and my nephew followed a couple years later. We both played sports and our parents participated in school functions. All of the athletics programs and extra curricula's, especially football (my favorite), have some of the best coaches and mentors in the state. North also offers AP classes as well as Special Needs classes for students. High School should be a good growing and memorable experience for teenagers and I feel that Appleton North can offer that opportunity to your son or daughter. Go North!!!

Although discipline could improve, Appleton North High School has the best quality of education through teachers and curriculum - in the Fox Valley.
