My little one did absolutely fantastic here! We moved from another state in the beginning of the school year where the kindergarden curriculum was extremely rigid. My child was not doing very well until he was in the nurturing environment at Eagle Point. His teacher was truly a blessing. The school also has an excellent system for teaching children respect for one another. I couldn't have hoped for better in a new town, new state, and new life!!
This elementary school does run a bit differently from the others in the district because of the school 'make-up' as compared to the other schools. Eagle Point has by far the highest percentage of students recieving free and reduced lunches than other schools in the district - 29%! They also have the highest percentage of non-white students. These numbers have been taken from the greatschools.org web site. I'd like to know what the parent who wrote the poor review thinks that the school should do with the children who are repeatedly behavior problems. I say the earlier these problems are taken care of, the better off the child will be. Many of today's students come to school with a lack of respect for adults and teachers.
I My children should attend the larger school but we chose Eagle Point. The teachers really go out of their way to help the students. The staff members work very well with each other and they go out of their way to ensure my children have a safe nuturing enviroment. The principal is new so we have had much interaction with her. Detentions are only used as necessary and are fair to all students.
the methods of discipline at this school have notoriously been heavy handed and in favor of severe, lengthy detentions, heavy on referrals for possible EEN and not in favor of the learner the teachers are encouraged to stick to principal directives...if a child is targeted as a 'problem', they stay that way. the teachers are not involved in solutions favoring the child, rather just themselves and how not to adjust their teaching methods. therefore...the teachers are not flexible and neither is the administration. this elementary school runs quite differently than the others in the district and parents have decided to homeschool their children rather than have these little ones expelled or suspended which has happened. it shows in the district annual report...even indicating the low grades where these are actions are happening. come on people...this should be investigated outside of the school system...letters to the board have been ignored
