EAGLE is wonderful, with classes of 14-15 and subject-specific teachers (e.g. math teachers teach only math; social studies teachers don't teach math). Science is first-rate; solid language and computers; band begins 4th grade. Where else can you find this for <$10K per year? In Chi. it costs twice as much, in NYC, 3x. Classes are ability-grouped; e.g. math sections reflect ability, not age. There isn't extensive, individualized differentiation; all children I know are challenged academically. Informal comparison among families over a long time suggests many kids going K-8 are National Merit Semi-Finalists or better. Typical class MAP scores *average* 95%-ile. Lots of academic extra-curriculars: Math Counts, Math Olympiad, Sci. Olympiad, National History Day, regional writing competition. EAGLE is run leanly, so it's affordable. If you need extensive counseling or tutoring included, it's the wrong place. EAGLE isn't for everyone; expectations and homework levels are high; parent engagement is essential. Schoolwork must be top priority. 20-somethings I know attribute college prep success more to EAGLE than H.S.
I am surprised by the most recent comments. Our 3 children (6th, 3rd, K) have been very happy at Eagle. From the first day we transferred our eldest to Eagle, we could see that the staff, children and parents strive to make everyone feel welcomed and accepted. When we had a concern about a teacher/curriculum, our interactions with the principal have been very positive. Eagle's new physical education teacher started the fall of 2011 and the kids love him. There are so many ways to get involved. Most parents surpass the required 9 hours of volunteer work required per year per child because we know Eagle is the best place for our children and we want to give back.
I am a proud parent of two Eagle school students. My kids were bored to tears at the public school they attended. Eagle was our ticket to happiness. Both kids greatly enjoy the school and look forward to it everyday. The teachers are great! Addressing concerns with the principle and/or with the kids teachers has been straight forward and professional. Eagle kids are gifted and talented and they all have some sort of "special" need. Eagle does a great job to accommodate for them. If you are considering Eagle as a choice for your children, I can assure you the decision to send them to Eagle will be wonderful for the entire family! ML Proud Eagle Dad
EAGLE is a school that is struggling with some key issues. Bullying has become a culture that is strongly defended by the new principal as it build strong kids. Unfortunately it is not limited to a few students as some staff members participate as well. The new principal has also gutted the parent organization and limited parents say in the school. There is little support to change this from the board. The school does have an excellent science program and does really well with language arts. Health program is lacking. There is a strong focus in the school on the arts and drama is a significant part of the curriculum. EAGLE does struggle with the one size fits all curriculum and only allows limited differentiation. If your child can handle an aggressive environment and you do not want to get involved, than this can be a good school for you. If you child is emotional, sensitive, or significantly gifted I would strongly recommend looking into other options until there is a change. Two kids in school for 3 years and past Parent Board President.
Eagle School is superb. Leadership under our new principal has been excellent, the staff are committed and engaging, and parents are heavily involved. The amount of parental volunteering enables Eagle to maintain tuition at 25 to 35% below other local secular private schools. There is a wonderful sense of camaraderie and respect. We were so impressed when we first visited by the confident and articulate students, we knew it was a community we wanted to be a part of.
Every single student has special needs--including (especially!) TAG kids. EAGLE recognizes this, and its administration and teachers work tirelessly to address those needs and help every single one of its students learn, grow and thrive.
EAGLE School is an amazing school. The curriculum is challenging and the students are actually engaged in school work. Teachers there really care and are always encouraging students to do their absolute best. EAGLE school is such a wonderful place and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to be a student there for 9 years.
Classes are small, teachers are nice, and everyone there is fun to be around. As a past student of EAGLE, I would recommend it to everyone who values education and relationships.
I went to EAGLE for four years. Those four were probably the best years of school I have ever received. I was officially recognized as Talented and Gifted in second grade. From then on, I was extremely bored, even with the services provided by the state. When I came to EAGLE, I suddenly was adequately challenged. The teachers there are absolutely fabulous; each pertains to the needs of the students and develops a great relationship with everyone.
Eagle is a fantastic school in a beautiful location with a wonderful, supportive staff and peer group for academically gifted students. We were told by many educators that we would have trouble finding an environment to meet our gifted child's needs. Our child has been fully challenged, and is so happy to have found friends who she can relate to. I couldn't recommend the school more.
