not a very good choice of schools. The biggest thing is it's a small town gossip, and your kids are affected because they either fit in, or they don't. They have a fear of being pushed around and not being able to concentrate and learn because of these kids who won't let you in. Small town clicks hurt our children
As a former student of Freedom High School i find that the overall performance, and quality of the teaching staff is amazing. All of the teachers there are exceptionally skilled in teaching their particular field of study. My only criticism would be the general lack of support for the music/art program. As a former band member (sixth grade-senior) I noticed that the main issues hounding the music department was an overall lack of outside funding. The community in freedom is less interested in hearing a good concert than they are in hearing that the football team managed to win 0 games again that year (despite the halftime shows being drop dead amazing.) There is an enormous amount of untapped artistic and musical talent in freedom, and if the parent community could only realize it I think that this school would be on track to become and outstanding facility.
The Arts are really poor in Freedom. I went there. There is still racial tentions in the school to this day. Not all are bad, but they still have major issues, but besides that the art classes that are there are great. If you do go I recommend taking them. The school could still use more choices when it comes to the arts.
Freedom High School has excellent Science, History, English, Art, and Music teachers. However, lack of community investment and involvement in the school has caused it to suffer in several ways. The facilities are very outdated, the student body has out grown the classroom and lunchroom capacities, and several after school programs have been cut back or cut completely (except for sports, Freedom now offers Soccer). For instance, the community voted against building a new theater (the current one seats about 500- which is the size of a small lecture hall). Therefore, the drama club must perform plays and musicals in the gym, no theater or dance classes are offered, and band and choir concerts are performed at local churches or at other school theaters. All in all, Freedom High School is an 'ok' school when it really could be a 'great' school - I'd blame the community, not the school board.
The Arts have really died in Freedom High School. I am a Jounier there hoping that one day I can be a Teacher of the Arts. I want to let children be who they are, realize their individuality, and lead them down a road of hope. What freedom has made of their students: scared, defensive, angry, stressed, violent, misunderstood teens Dont sent your kid here.
Honestly, as a student of this school, I find that the overall quality of the teachers and the rest of the staff is extremely low. The music and arts programs always come second to the football, wrestling, and other sports and activities.
