Small classroom size allows for any extra help. High school teachers are great at meeting outside of class. A good strong Christian school with an accelerated curriculum for college preparation.
Saint Augustine school offers a highly classical high school curriculum not found at HUHS or other local public high schools. THe students learn foreign languages, study literature in depth, take 5 years of math if they attend there in 8th grade and study the classics. Parental involvement is mandatory and any parent who does not want to be involved in their child's education probably is attending the public school. The teachers are very caring, well educated adults. Currently there are two religious teachers, a Sister and a religious Brother which add greatly to the Catholic focus of the school. Please explore this school if you want your child to be educated in the traditional Catholic Faith. You will not be sorry. We had 4 children attend there and have 3 there now and wouldn't send them elsewhere. A happy involved parent.
I am a student at St.Augustine School and I think this is the greatest school that anyone could ask for. Everyone enjoys the outdoor sports! I personally enjoy the teachers actually taking time to get to know you! This school year of 2004-2005 has been the best. I really enjoyed all the teachers and I will miss them very much!
I am currently a student at this school, and pleased with it. The school is Catholic, the curriculum is being changed from a Christian one to a Catholic one. I am very satisfied with the education I have recieved so far, I would also say that it is definitely above average. With the smaller classes I feel that all of us have a great amount of one on one with teachers to ask questions. We learn the basics as foundation and move up to bigger and better things. I am very thankful that this school is like it is, all of my classmates are very close friends, the sports we play are very fun. As for the extracurricular activities we do have them,We have in the past had fantasy baseball, chess club, reading programs, music theory, musical instruments, movie making classes, and night classes for adults, and we play interschool sports.(football, basketball)
We have 4 children at this school. When looking for a school, academics, faith and the moral character to be instilled in our children was of the upmost importance. We are very thankful to have St. Augustine. Our children are all perfoming very well in academics. They have all been reading by the end of their kindergarten years as opposed to many other children their ages. As the previous poster said, the parents are very involved at the school. We love the fact that the staff and other families all know us and our children by name. True, if extra-curriculars are what you are worried about, this is not the place for you. Those are always available for your particiapation in the community. The focus of the school is on the basics. If academics and moral training are more important to you, this would be a great choice for your children.
I am a student here and I completely disagree with the bad review above. I have received a good, moral education from teachers with their masters degree in philosophy, mathematics, and moral theology. One of my teachers is greatly involved in the pro-life movement. None of my teachers are the parents of I or any of my peers. Also are athletics department is looking up. We play football against Trinity Academy and next year the high school is getting a basketball team. As for other after school activities we have movie making classes, music theory classes , languages, and insruments, such as guitar and piano, are taught. In fact I myself have been playing guitar for a year and a half and piano for half a year. - Dan Sweeney
Whoever said this great school deserves one star must love public education. This school offers great basic education: reading, writing and math. Also science, history and literature. The high school curriculum is fantastic and very college prep. If you are looking for a school to dump your kid in and not be involved, don't consider St. Augustine. They require parent involvement and that is what keeps the children and parents so together. The Catholic Faith is stressed in every subject. Rosary is said as are station of the cross during Lent. Extracurrular activities can be found at the town hall, the YMCA and other avenues. Parents who choose their schools based on extracurricular activities do not put their children's education or salvation first.
This is the worst school I have ever been involved with. I had children there at one time and greatfully do not anymore. There is no physical education dept, art, music, or other extra curricular activities. The parent involvement is very strong, which it should be when the parents are the ones teaching the children! I would not recommed this school to my worst enemy, and suggest that noone in their right mind send their children to this school.
This is a great school. I have 5 childen at St. Augustine and all are doing well. The children are far above other schools in our area. The teacher student ratio is small, so one-on-one is a daily occurance. The curriculum is traditional Catholic and reinforces the faith in every subject. The staff is all caring and extreamly qualified. We love the school.
