Both of my kids went through the high school. Wonderful teachers who really care, and the women in the office are great. School board is very progressive and supportive of public education.

We are very disappointed in Holmen High school. They use a 4.33 grading system, allow students to "retake tests for a better grade", and the high school is over crowded. Most recently, Holmen High School scored miserably on standardized tests. Math and reading scores are down right embarrassing..around 40-45% proficient. Our property taxes are very high...we don't know why, when this town has no amenities what so ever... not even a coffee shop, yet over 53% of our property taxes are allocated to the school system. I wonder where the money is being spent. Do yourself a favor and send your child to Onalaska.

I am profoundly disappointed in the Holmen High School. Our son transferred in with a 4.0/4.0, however the school is on a 4.33 grading scale and they made no effort to convert the scales. This dropped his class percentile from about the 98th% to the 84th% just for being transferred in from outside the district. This happened to another 4.0 student at the same time and the Principal just wants to bark at parents for advocating for better.
