Johnson Creek Elementary is providing a great educational opportunity for my child. The teachers are engaged and work at all levels of learning. The new Talented and Gifted program is providing additional opportunties that have not been previously available. Communication from school to home is good. Opportunities for enrichment are available for all subjects, including art, leadership, and even performance. A new building is needed due to large growth over the past 6 to 8 years. The community needs to come together to make this happen. Overall - we are very satisfied with our Johnson Creek educational experience. We are not "lifers" and do not feel that long time residents get preferential treatment.
Small town here means if your ancestors are not from around here you are not very welcomed. Any new technology is unheard of. Teachers are only there to play favorites to the "community leaders children" and likely their friends and lifelong neighbors. These are educators??? So educated that they refuse to pronounce the word "creek" as is is spelled...(see preferred pronunciation in Websters Dictionary). This word rhymes with leek, not lick!!! Its a wonder why people from other communities view residents from this town as being of the slow red-neck variety.
I am a parent of three children at the school. The small town atmosphere allows a positive school to home connection. The building is old, the community needs to prepare for an expanding community. The work is more individualized for each student and their current abilities. It would be a 4 or 5 star school with new facilities.
I am a graduate from Johnson Creek High, and currently have a sibling attending the same school. The school really does do great considering how funding is constantly being cut for education. I really liked the small town atmosphere...christ, we didn't even lock our lockers in high school because theft was a non-issue. If you want a big school where nobody knows you or cares about you, go elsewhere. As far as the comment about using school choice to go elsewhere is concerned: I used school choice to come to Johnson Creek because I loved the school district so much. Keep up the good work, Johnson Creek!
Johnson Creek Elementary School is cramped and crowded with only the bare-minimum opportunities provided for students. Older students are taught in portable classrooms that were supposed to be removed years ago. The school administrative staff (including the principal, school secretary, etc) are frequently unfriendly, curt, condescending, and unresponsive. Teachers do not follow through on promised communication with parents and progressive education methods are essentially ignored. Diversity in the classroom curriculum is merely lip-service, while mudane homework consisting of nothing but busy work is required from as early as 4K. The district as a whole cannot even seem to be able to properly program its voicemail capabilities and staff rarely return telephone calls. The school board members are unresponsive and are not held accountable for decisions; meetings are not accurately recorded or reported. Open enrollment at a nearby district would be a better option.
Johnson Creek Elementary is a great, small school. With about 300 kids, your children will get a quality, one on one education. Right around 50 kids per grade helps maintain the small school atmosphere, while allowing teachers and staff to work closely with the kids to enhance their knowledge of technology, the arts, etc. Johnson Creek Elementary is a very progressive school. Students know Power Point by second grade. They compete in many gifted and talented areas, including art, math, science and writing contests. Our teachers and staff do a wonderful job making the kids want to learn. Our principal is great, and always willing to lend an ear if you need to talk to her. Come and visit. You'll want to stay in Johnson Creek.
