This school is a very good school. They have alot of resources. They offer some programs that alot of school districts can't afford to offer anymore like band. I love the way the school is set up per grade and the same counselor stays with your child til they graduate 8th grade, so I don't have to keep explaining myself every year about my son's ADHD. The counselor can just inform the teachers every new school year. This is an awesome school!
Mahone is an amazing school! The teachers are extremely kind and caring, and they really do try to help each and every student learn. And the music programs are fantastic, and the extra curricular activities are interesting and fun. And as a student, I feel that the way that Mahone is set up in houses is very easy to navigate and understand. Overall Mahone is awesome!
Ok the is the end of my son's life a Mahone. It's somewhat bittersweet. He has had a wonderful educational experience at Mahone. The orchestra program is phenomenal. My son has excelled academically. The teacher support is great. The office staff is always polite and friendly. That is reflection of the Administration. The Principal is just awesome. I can not say enough great things about Mahone Middle School. We will misss Mahone !
I have been a teacher at Mahone since it's opening in 2002. I LOVE teaching here! The previous post (2005/6 I believe) about the teachers feeling unsupported is inaccurate. I feel that I am supported by parents, other faculty, administration and am allowed to teach creatively. Our music program is the best and largest in the area and the arts in general receive a lot of support from administration. I feel Mahone does a great job of reaching children of all levels and capabilities. We have a great exceptional ed. program and are able to meet the needs of all types of learners including the severely physically challenged.
I am a 7th grader here, and i love all the people there. the best house is the Ojibwa
i am a student here. This school shows spirit and cares about teaching the children. There are some of best but also notso good things that occur at the school. I love Mahone mistakesmistakes. makesmistakes though
I'm an 8th grader at Mahone and I've had a great year. The teachers take timey to actually get to know the students and most of them find cool ways to teach us and we actually learn more! I participate in a number of extracurricular activities like Student Council and Drama Club and the Orchestra program is great. I'm also an Honors student and my clas has mostly A's and B's.
Mahone is a great school. I do not know why that former teacher that posted a review and said that mahone had no discipline. They are stict at mahone but not mean. Mahone is a great school with the greatest teachers.
Unfortunately I have to echo the previous reviews. I found the orchestra program to be top notch, the honors program somewhat challenging for my student. You get two, satisfactory choices folks: Honors Math & English or Honors Science & Social Studies. If your student is an achiever, you will note the lax expectations of the teachers --and no accountability from the principal. I've seen the best and the very worse at this school.
Mahone is frighteningly out of control. As a former Mahone teacher, I feel sorry for the majority of the students that behave and are left behind because the administration refuses to promptly suspend kids that are simply...thugs, because it makes the school's statistics look bad to the district. Mahone is an absolutely beautiful facility with many extracurricular opportunities. The parents and public should know, however, that the teachers at Mahone have little support in terms of handling discipline issues and this lowers the quality of instruction. I am one of several highly qualified teachers that left Mahone because I prefer to teach rather than be a cop.
