I love the diversity in the student population and the classes offered.
East is an amazing school, one of the best in Madison. The academic curriculum is wonderful, the large student body is very under control, and the teachers work very hard to make high school a great experience for all. East High is highly recommended to all.
East High School is a great school that i recomend to anyone and everyone who wants to learn in a diverse population. It strides in exellence.
East High gets a lot of unfair bad press in Madison. The population is diverse and the school offers an array of tracks in which students of all levels can learn. We recommend attending East.
I think that East is a fine school. The vast majority of students at East are intelligent decent people. Some people like to paint East as a school that has nothing but gangs and criminals. This is far from true. It just turns out that when something happens at East the media likes to ponce on it. When all you advertise is negativity that is what people perceive and people tend to believe what they perceive even if it isn't true, which is often the case. If you want to shelter your kids moving out to the suburbs is not the answer.
East High School has lost its intended purpose of preparing citizens for future employment. In the area of academics and behavior,it has lowered the bar of expectations for certain students and raised it for others. The school system is attempting to appear successful with minority students to not seem racist. It is not considering how it is failing those students to adjust to the real world after leaving high school. As the parent of an 'average student' I watch my child pushed through courses now designed to 'teach to the test'. 'Special students' are consuming funding, whether it be an emotional disability, learning disabilities and/or behavior(pregnant girls, violent students) problems. If I could afford it, my child would be in private school, even though I do work in the Madison school system.
