Molly Kroemer, Ben DeJong, Deb Stone, Kate Dunning, Patrice Symczak are amazing educators. They are working very hard to try to create safe spaces for children who want to learn, can do it with support.
There are a few excellent teachers sprinkled in with mostly mediocre, and a few stunningly bad "educators" who show little respect for students. Many of the staff (teachers, administration, etc) are "old guard" Mequon. They like to hire "their own".
Money and brand names are certainly respected. You will get lots more respect if you carry a S***** container in with you every morning, even if its just filled with water and not coffee. Don't bother with being in anything other than the accelerated or double accelerated math class...you are considered remedial and therefore not worthy of respect. And how dare you think you are worthy of respect if you are not a gifted athlete???
I don't even know where to start with this school. Empathy does not exist...perhaps the overcrowded classrooms (34-35 kids per class) make behavior control impossible? The attempts to control bullying and increase student compassion by hosting " anti-bullying assemblies"are at best hilariously entertaining and at worst a waste of money...I could not believe how ridiculous the presentation was that I witnessed. Honestly, I would rather walk through a metal detector to teach school than teach the overall snotty, entitled social climbing student body here. Despite the "upper class environment" manners are sadly lacking. My son is afraid to use the bathroom due to the unmentionable disrespect the students pay to their own school. On the bright side, Mequon schools rate highly among Wisconsin schools...we are Number One even if we can't keep our Number Twos where they belong:)
After school programs/additional aademic clubs are few. Teachers are having to teach to the test, it seems, or having to implement new teaching methods/software, and have less time to focus on students' actual learning and grasping the basics. Office staff are attentive and very helpful. Disappointed in the academics though we moved here for the great ratings. Also staff turnover rate is too high to maintain consistent standards.
Lakeshore Middle School is fantastic. The academics are rigorous and the teachers are amazing. Everyone works together to give each student the best experience. The 6th graders are eased into middle school by being all on one floor - mostly separate from the 7th and 8th graders for their first year. I am thrilled my children get to experience this outstanding school.
