I have had three kids go through Lakeshore Middle School. Each having a different but very positive experience. While the middle school years are often difficult to navigate with kids emotions being all over the board, the staff works hard to give them a very rigorous academic experience. The staff has worked hard to identify strengths in each of my children. This helped each one determine which avenues to pursue into High School and beyond. The staff really cares and that helps the kids to excel!
Lately bullying has become a huge issue at this school, especially with the girls. The teachers and administration refuse to acknowledge what goes on and instead refer you to the police department or social services. I met with the principal, social worker and counselor and I contacted the parent of the student involved. My child was bullied at the school in the hallways, school events, during class and messages were sent via phone. Nothing was resolved. My other children attended this school and I never had the problems at this school like this. I pulled my child from this school and enrolled them in a private school close by.
There are a few excellent teachers sprinkled in with mostly mediocre, and a few stunningly bad "educators" who show little respect for students. Many of the staff (teachers, administration, etc) are "old guard" Mequon. They like to hire "their own".
After school programs/additional aademic clubs are few. Teachers are having to teach to the test, it seems, or having to implement new teaching methods/software, and have less time to focus on students' actual learning and grasping the basics. Office staff are attentive and very helpful. Disappointed in the academics though we moved here for the great ratings. Also staff turnover rate is too high to maintain consistent standards.
Lakeshore Middle School is fantastic. The academics are rigorous and the teachers are amazing. Everyone works together to give each student the best experience. The 6th graders are eased into middle school by being all on one floor - mostly separate from the 7th and 8th graders for their first year. I am thrilled my children get to experience this outstanding school.
