Rufus King has helped my son become an independent learner -- and have a lot of fun!
I just attended my freshman son's first paret-teacher conference last night; and I was blown away by the parental attendance! Parent waiting lines were long for every teacher; I was there for almost two hours-yet the teachers never seemed rushed or haggard; they cheerfully took the time to answer all my -and other parents that I could see- questions and concerns. My son also tells me he 'really likes' King, despite the academic challenges -i.e, workload and expectation of excellence- that he has to balance along with playing football. All that, plus the top-ranked public high school in Wisconsin(Newsweek). What more could a parent ask for?
The students, staff and administration work hard to make Rufus King the best school in the state. There are high expectations and opportunities.
My child is incredibly happy with Rufus King High School. She is taking a full IB courseload and is thriving.
I graduated from King. It prepared me for college and beyond. In addition to just receiving a great education, I enjoyed my time there because of the dedicated teachers and diverse body of students. I now have a network of Rufus King graduates who all became successful and are doing great things with their lives and communities.
I feel Rufus King is a great school because of the IB program allowing the students a better learning experience as we prepare for college. King is also a very integrated school allowing for a well rounded student body.
The best high school in Wisconsin, as rated by Newsweek for several years now, Rufus King is the best MPS high school a parent can send his or her child to. The IB program is so rigorous (college-level courses, 4,000-word college-level research paper, 150 hours of community service, Theory of Knowledge course) that there is no doubt college will be a breeze. The school's student body is rather diverse and open-minded. King also has great extracurricular opportunities - from Basketball to Model UN, Golf to Forensics. If your child takes advantage of the most challenging courses available, and endeavors the full IB program (requiring 6 IB classes and the aforementioned components of the Extended Essay, TOK, and CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) hours), he or she will be extremely well-prepared for college, and depending upon the results of their IB tests, could gain sophomore status when entering college. I strongly recommend (outofwords).
I'm a graduate of King currently in a PhD program out of state, and I can honestly say that it was the best education that I could possibly have had. King regularly sends students to the best universities in the country (and the world - thanks to the IB program). I don't know why it scored a 6 according to this website, but I assure you that the education is better than anything available in metropolitan Milwaukee - public or private, city or suburbs. It attracts a talented and extremely diverse student body, and the teachers are among the best in the city. The IB program is one of the school's most valuable assets, and it prepares students extremely well. Don't be persuaded by the flashy buildings and Advanced Placement stats of the private and suburban schools - King is the best route to the Ivy League in Milwaukee.
The teachers there have one goal: teach the students full material in a positive atmosphere that ables all to learn. I'm a freshman and was amazed at how organized and committed my teachers were to teaching us. You don't get this much out of MPS, so I was very pleased to be able to attend a school that does. The student body is very diverse and friendly, so being social here isn't a problem at all.
As an employee of MPS and Rufus King High School, I can honestly say that I have never seen a school that is more focused on student achievement that Rufus King. The teachers either have their masters degree in their content area or are working to obtain it. The IB curriculum is a college bound program that focuses students on learning and critical thinking; this is the complete oposite of the Advance Placement programs that exisit in most high schools. In most schools, students are chosen to participate in the more rigorous academic programs. At Rufus King, students and parents self-select to participate in the IB program. The percentage of kids involved in this program is astounding. I have never seen anything like it! I am proud to be a part of this school and its academic program!
Its one of the best schools in Wisconsin! It has the IB program which expands the future options for every student that takes the courses, it has over 150 clubs/ activities ( including almost every sport you can think of), and its in a beautiful neighborhood!
This is a very good school! the #1 highschool in wiscsonsin.. And has the best academmic prgrams and teaching criteria... Choose king!
I'm not a parent but i do currently attend king. I think it is a great school, the courses that are available are challenging and at the same time a benefit to its students. I have to say that i enjoy the school. Although there tends to be a lot of students in the classes, i am still able to learn and focus on the task at hand. I would recommend this school to anyone because it is an overall good school. I feel safe while in the building and it is just and overall good enviroment to be in.
I believe king is a great school. I know from first hand experience. I was a graduate class of 2000.
Too many kids in the classes, teachers don't want to teach and too many kids in the school.
I have a senior and a freshman at Rufus King, and I couldn't be more pleased with the school as a whole. My children feel valued by the staff as well as by the student population which is very diverse and friendly. When my daughter got lazy in her schoolwork, her teachers communicated with us and continued to encourage and support her through it. King has high standards for college bound students which challenges them in many ways. King's varied extracurricular activities and sports program has something for every student to be active in and help them grow as a person.
