This school is a success because of all the involved parents. This is a school parents choose and therefore are more likely to be involved in their child's education. It makes the school feel like one big family. You can be confident that all the grown ups have your child's best interest at heart. They also care for each child's development as a whole, not just academically, but emotionally and socially as well.
Highland is a public Montessori, parent-run charter school, representing the best of many worlds. Children are encouraged to discover their potential, and are supported in their pursuit of their academic interests. The school community is nurturing and motivated, and parents are recognized as instrumental in their children's education, and empowered to take action! My child has been here since 18 months, now a 4th grader, and I wouldn't want her anywhere else.
It is a great school that provides an excellent education....
Highland Community School is a public charter Montessori School that has served a central city Milwaukee neighborhood for more than 40 years. We are parent run, with each parent contributing a minimum of 36 hours of time to the school per academic year. In addition, many of our students have parents who are alumni or current or former employees of Highland.
Highland Community School is a diverse Montessori school in the heart of Milwaukee. The school body is comprised of diverse students, teachers, and staff that make Highland one of the best schools in the city. I have 3 little ones that are currently attending Highland and have been there since they were 18 months old. I love how the curriculum works with each student in a way that all students can learn and grow.
Community! Great friendships! Excellent, well balanced & healthy children!
It's home away from home quality. Every child is given the opportunity to grow & thrive in their own unique way! It's truly a parent-run school - we do it all from preparing classrooms for the children via parent work day. Roll up your sleeves, when there are walls to paint - we paint 'em; if there are things to fix - we fix 'em. Parents invest their sweat, skills & talents in our school with the reassurance that the staff and teachers do the same to our kids. There is no place in the world like Highland Community School.
We absolutely love Highland! It truly is a home away from home not only for our children, but for us as well. Teachers and fellow parents are people we consider friends. All children get what they need to grow and succeed, we pool resources, strengths and talents to make Highland the greatest school- and we're darn proud of it!
I really appreciate the teachers at highland and their willingness to make the extra effort to support and nuture thier students. It is a wonderful place to help children develop their love for learning. I choose Highland because I knew that my child would be challenged by the new, encourged to build on her strengths and develop in the areas of weakness. I encourage parents who believe that education should be holistic in its approach in order to have community members that are self-reflective, intelligent and thoughtful when making life decisions.
We adore Highland. Highland Community school is just that, a community. My children arrive everyday excited and happy. We are greeted by the lovely students parents and teachers. Highland is a beautiful environment. I never feel lost or out of place, neither do my kids. Miss Pat is incredible, my kids have matured and learned so much from her. Miss Susan is friendly and sweet. Miss Karen keeps everything together, running smoothly, and makes us all feel like we are at home. Oh, and we love Notes Home! Few schools take the time and effort to keep families updated but Highland does. I feel like Highland is the little MPS school that could. My kids would be at a private school if we had not found Highland, and we are all so glad we did.
