I've been to Hickman academy and all I can say is its a wonderful school. My daughter attends there and she has learned more than I would never had imagined. She is making me a proud parent. And I owe that to the staff and owners of this school. They had a few rough spots but as a family they came together and overcame though problems. They are good people. The teachers are great.

There is a new assistant principal this year who has absolutely no experience teaching. The principle they had quit and no longer works there. The new principle never interacts with students or parents (Some still don't know who she is). They never have any field trips. There is no gym, art, or music teachers so the students are in their class all day long. Overpopulated and most classes have a 33 to 1 ratio. I've seen a class in the basement (4/5) with pipes and smells mil-dewy. The office is probably the most unorganized and "ghetto" that I've ever seen at a school. And from what I hear, the few good teachers they have left will not be attending next year. Need I say more?

My daughter has attended Hickman for three years now, and while she is doing alright academically, I'm beginning to feel the school is enrolling more and more students and does not have the resources for these students. The children rarely have recess or gym, the food is really bad, and this year they haven't even taken a field trip or school photos. There is also no library and they aren't really equipped to deal with children who may have some special needs. There is also a high amount of turnover among the teaching staff, which I take as a bad sign.

I feel that hickman Acasemy has been a tremendous help in educating my granddsughter. My granddaughter came to this school in September of 2008 with no self esteem and no direcion in mind for learning. Since she's been at this school her self esteem has escalated. She has found a weil to want to learn. If it wasn't for the staff and student positive environment I wouldn't know where her mind would be. Thank you Hickman Academy staff for helping my granddaughter find herself. Mrs. Young
