Notre Dame Middle School is dedicated to helping Hispanic girls to get ready for high schoola and complete it. Their care and concern continues after the girls graduate from eighth grade. Contacts are kept up, tutoring is offered. Most of their graduates go on to college!

It teaches girls who ordinarily would not receive a good education

Notre Dame Middle School is a bi-lingual school of excellence designed especially to assist Hispanic students in Milwaukee, WI to overcome the language/cultural handicaps in learning in order to be leaders in the community. The percentage of those who graduate from High School and go onto College is phenomenal. It was founded and continues under the sponsorship of the School Sisters of Notre Dame who have been strong and leading educators in this country since 1847 when they came to America - and Milwaukee - then, to teach German immigrants. Go! See for yourself what an awesome group of students these are.

It is a Nativity Miguel model school sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame that is community-minded and promotes education that transforms the student in order to ultimately transform the world. It is more than a middle school in that it provides after school activities for the students each and every day, has a creative summer school component, and follows its graduates through high school and college in a strong graduate support program. It is special because it focuses on the needs of Hispanic girls who are considered 'at risk.'

Posted September 18, 2009

This school is top of its class! The girls who graduate Notre Dame Middle School are ready not only for success in high school and college, but in life!

NDMS gives their students a top notch education that develops not only academic excellence but also leadership training.

Posted September 18, 2009

The Children are enthusiastic learners. The focus is on developing leadership for Latino girls and making sure they go on to college.

Posted September 18, 2009

NDMS is the very best school in Milwaukee for young, Hispanic girls. Not only is the education tops, but the added value of leadership development for the girls is priceless. And each girl's family is also enriched by her going to NDMS - the family gets involved and there is a sense of a strong community at this school.

Our teachers and volunteers are determined to empower our students, not only through their teaching but also by seeing to it that each young woman has the opportunity to be personally mentored while at Notre Dame Middle School, and even through her college years!

I am graduating Notre Dame Middle School this June and i loved it very much. One of the reasons i enjoyed being there is because it challenged me to prepare myself for High School and my future. One other reason i liked it was because of the after school program. I hope many young girls go to this school because it is the best Middle School someone would want.

I am one of Notre Dame Middle School students. I really love the school. We are going to have our new building done by next month, hopefully. In my opinion I think it's good that we get to go to more challenging classes if we are adcvanced. There are many oppurtunities. My favorite Enrichment program is Ballroom( not because we get to see Nativity boys, but because it is a program that we have that not many other schools have the privalige of having. This is what I have to say about my new school. I enjoy it very much and all of the staff is enjoyable to be with.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Wisconsin used the Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS), which includes the WKCE and WAA, to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in math and reading, and in grades 4, 8 and 10 in language arts, science and social studies. The WSAS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Wisconsin. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level. In private schools, only voucher program participants are tested.

average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state.

*Test scores are based on the 2012 WSAS results from the state of Wisconsin.

**The academic growth rating measures how schools affect student test score improvement over time in reading and math. This data is from 2012 and is provided by the Value-Added Research Center and Milwaukee Public Schools. Private school growth data is not included in the rating because it is not comparable with public school results.

Climate ratings

This rating encompasses five elements of school climate: safety and cleanliness, respect and relationships, expectations for students, teacher collaboration and support, and parent involvement. This school's climate ratings are the result of GreatSchools' analysis of teacher survey data from the Spring 2012 School Climate Survey developed by Milwaukee Public Schools. Unfortunately, this school didn't provide enough survey responses to generate a climate rating.
