My 4th grader has to sit and do nothing every Friday during freetime

This doesn't sound productive. Why is this happening? Have you spoken to the teacher? Is there an issue that the teacher is trying to fix? Is this tactic working? How does your child feel about this and is he or she the only one that is missing freetime?

It is punishment. Apparently she has a bunch of kids sitting quietly, doing nothing as punishment. I sent cursive worksheets to school ( his handwriting is terrible), but she says that the other kids are sitting doing nothing so she can't let him do worksheets. This punishment is supposed to get them ready for 5th grade. She says she has alot of "talkers" in her class, and they need to learn to keep quiet.26478

Request a meeting with the Teacher AND the Principal at the same time. Ask the Teacher point blank, why in the world is your child told to sit and "do nothing"...It may be he/she is asked to do something but doesnt agree to, or the Teacher is being very unreasonable. Dont just ask the Teacher, but make dang sure the Principal is there as well, so he/she will witness the Teacher's response first hand.26475
