Agree with other reviewer, needs new principal. School is an excellent school, students, and staff are also above average. The low review is for the megalomaniac of a principal. You are either in her circle of friends, or you're not, (note: helps if you are female) and when you are not, and having any kind of issues with your child, be prepared to have the principal way more involved in your personal life than should be allowed. The only problems that I have with the academics are: 1. I'm not a fan of teachers who modify tests with low scores, and letting students retake the test to get higher scores. I know it makes the school look better because it appears the students have highger grades at that school, but how does that actually help the students. High schools do not do this. 2. It would be nice if there was more of an efort to help the children with spelling.

I cannot believe the negative comments on here! My son has attended for 4 years now and we have had nothing but positive experiences. The principal is very easy to talk to and is willing to go above and beyond for the students. The teachers are very compassionate and their care for their students is obvious. My son is not the best student, but I have worked together with the teachers and principal to make learning a greatly positive experience for him. Do not hesitate to send your child here. They are in good hands.

Teachers are great but the leadership is disappointing. After half a year of remodeling, the principal now has a huge office totally out of keeping with the rest of the school, complete with cathedral ceiling and full skylights. The art teacher still has to conduct classes in the cafeteria because he has no room, and other parts of the school's plaster on the exterior are crumbling and repaired with several square feet of duct tape. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. The principal runs it as her personal kingdom and it's a shame because everyone here deserves better.

Love the teachers, but the school needs new leadership. Principal lacks professionalism and organization, and always seems to be flying by the seat of her pants. She is difficult to approach with issues; she immediately becomes defensive and talks in circles around the issue at hand. Again, great teachers, but new leadership is definitely in order.

My daughter has been attending North Cape since Sept. 2008, enrolled as a kindergartner. I have read the comments of other parents and am perplexed. We are from as outside the district as we can be - open enrollment, no less. I have been welcomed with great graciousness by the staff and administration, as has my child. I have found the principal to be open, caring, and genuinely accessible to both children and parents. I even had opportunity to voice a complaint and I had it addressed at once, with no backlash or problems. The school curriculum is demanding - I am continually amazed at the amount of things they're teaching kindergartners, and the great pains teachers make to ensure even the youngest students are learning at an accelerated, ambitious rate. The curriculum is ambitious, the teachers are both talented and dedicated; North Cape's test scores reflect both these facts.

I like the School but I'm unhappy with certain things. You can not voice your opinion because your kids will suffer.

I truely enjoy the teachers at North Cape Elem. I do have a problem with the Principal. I believe she is very attatched to students who have attended her school for years. I believe I made a bad choice of school when moving here. Shame on me for not knowing there was a problem with the principal when she never made a move on meeting me when I first brought my kids to this school. It took 3 weeks for me to find her and introduce myself to her. I thought she was a parent. I can only hope they educate my children properly.

I think North Cape is a great school! The teachers and administrator do a wonderful job of educating the students. The school climate is very positive and discipline issues are handled in an effective and fair manner. The teachers and principal truly care about the kids and provide wonderful opportunities and experiences for them. I would not hesistate to recommend this school to anyone moving into the area. The small size is a plus and the needs of all students are met through curriculum and interventions. Keep up the great work!

I have been extremely pleased with North Cape School. My daughter has more 'arts' exposure than a friend's daughter at an MPS creative arts magnet school. A recent 3rd grade state wide exam rated North Cape at 100%, one of only 5 other districts in the 6 county area. I volunteer a lot at the school, and I don't see friction between the principal and teaching staff. What I do see is staff working quite well with one another as a team. I see a principal that demands a certain level of modesty in student dress and as a parent I applaud that! I am tired of looking at stomachs and underwear hanging out. If that is considered backward, well so be it. I will forever be grateful to the realtor who steered us towards North Cape due to her own love for the school.

North Cape is an incredibly close minded, backwards community and the school is no exception. The principal seems to care more about the students than the staff members. While this may seem an admirable trait, it causes friction between the staff and the administration which is evident to parents. The students at North Cape are wonderful and deserve more than they are getting. The school is more than capable of providing more instruction (especially in music, art, gym) but is so set in their 1950's mentality of 'what was good for me will be good for my kids' they will never change. For the good of your children stay away from North Cape School.

The school is getting better as it gets new teachers. The school is extreamly biased towards families of their choosing. The school sometimes even has special events to help aid these familys when they have financial, medical, or other problems. This same 'help' is not given to other families who have simular problems. Children of 'old families' are given preferential treatment over new families coming in to the area. The principal is very biased towards staff and students in an unfair and unjust manner. We no longer have children in the North Cape school, and regret we did not remove them sooner.

My children attended North Cape Elementary from 1984-1995. Due to lack of funds from the county and state, and close-minded school board members, this school was very backward in it's facility and educational equipment(i.e.computer literacy was considered unnecessary for a rural community; the school board was more concerned with taxes than the quality of the children's education; there was no computer access for most of the students). I was relieved that my children did well in high school, no thanks to North Cape Elementary. I have heard that there have been marked improvements in all categories listed above.
