This school is not going to be the school that i send my child to when i grow up. I've grown up in Nekoosa and I love the people that i have grown up with, but in all honesty, athletics and music are the only two things that keep this school alive. But the Core math approach is not the right one. But the teachers at this school are great. They are very nice and really relate to us students and are all pretty cool.

I suspect that previous reviews of this district are authored by an individual with a personal agenda. This school and district work diligently to provide consistent, quality education opportunities. Dig deeper before accepting these negative assessments as factual.

Nekoosa High School quite frankly is headed down hill. There is no leadership besides those of bullying students. CORE has brought down test scores drastically, but Nekoosa refuses to drop the CORE system. The only good thing about this school is its music program, which they are trying to cut..

NHS needs leadership and discipline. The school lacks these in a big way. The math program (CORE) hinders kids that are in freshmen college. The high school needs revamped.

Nekoosa High School pays more attention to the no child left behind act, than the child. From both ends of the spectrum, students do not get the services they need. Specifically in the areas of Math and English.

The attetion to student development and academic achievement has taken a back seat to internal politics, poor leadership, and poor spending priorities. I would rather send my child to another school.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Wisconsin used the Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS), which includes the WKCE and WAA, to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in math and reading, and in grades 4, 8 and 10 in language arts, science and social studies. The WSAS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Wisconsin. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level. In private schools, only voucher program participants are tested.

The different student groups are identified by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. If there are fewer than 5 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group. Subgroup scores for each school are only reported for students who were enrolled as of the fall enrollment count. The All students score includes results for all students who took the test, regardless of when they first enrolled in the school.
