I attended Oak Creek from 2005-2009. While the school does not accelerate at all departments when compared to rivals such as Franklin, Oak Creek High School has helped me significantly diversify myself with people who I would have never met at Franklin. See this as good or bad it was great to become friends with people from other spectrum of society. I would not trade this for anything. In addition, the marching band is by far the greatest gem of the school. The Marching Knights are one of the zenith bands in Wisconsin and even have rivaled other bands from neighboring Illinois. If you are looking for a rigorous academic schedule for your child Oak Creek does offer quite a few AP and accelerated classes coinciding with educators who do care about your child s success. Oak Creek is a fine place to attend to mature not only academically but also socially.
I think that Oak Creek Hight School is a great school for all new comers. This school has hight standards for every one of there students. And the band at Oak Creek High School is great!
I had a great experience at OCHS, the academic and athletic programs are top tier in the area/state. There are many opportunites for students and parents to get involved, and the AP programs and overall cirriculum did a great job of preparing me for the next level of my education.
I think that the Oak Creek High School is awesome. we just moved here about a month ago from a small town up north and my child was getting horrible grades. now he is getting A's and B's and I just love his improvement. I thank you so much for helping him out.
I am a current student at Oak Creek High School attending from 2004 to 2008. Oak creek high is a good above average wisconsin high school i attended st. roberts a private scool in milwaukee before oak creek high. oak creek high is the biggest high school in milwaukee county which makes it really interesting every day and is easy to fit in too. oak creek high has a great technical education program also whether it be autosmetals to wood shop and small engines.
I am a former student of OCHS, and have had a quality education in this school. The teachers are very dedicated to their students and the administration just as much so. This school is a top notch school and yes, every school has problems but not to the extent of some of the comments made here.
My family was transfered from another state and my son just finished his freshman year at OCHS. He found that some of the students are racist and was not happy with that. The academics is very good, he was unable to try out for the some of the bands because we arrived to late in the summer, the sports we have seen is phenomenal but I think that too much emphasis is put on them. The level of parent involvment needs to increase. I am glad that I am able to touch base with the teachers on-line so that I can keep abreast of my son's grades. Overall the school has a long way to go before anyone can call it a diverse school. It still has to many racial problems that need to be worked out.
If you are a student who would do outstanding in school and sports you will do well at Oak Creek. I know from experience that if you need any special needs in academics. You will be told you will get it but you won't. all smoke and mirrors. My sons IEP almost never gets followed. guidance made things worse for him by not letting him know he has to take certain classes for college. She said he was planning a different college so she recommended the lesser of the classes. They said his freshman year they don't think he will go to college. No student that recieved special ed help went to college ever! in OakCreek. That alone tells you where they stand on special ed. The roadblocks theyputinfront ofhim slowedhimdown butwon'tstophim.
I am very disappointed with the first review of Oak Creek High as well as some of the other reviews. I graduated from this school in 2003 and then went on to attend UWMilwaukee. I took many advanced and AP classes while in high school and I have to say, they helped me greatly once I reached college. The faculty are always around and most are open to help out any student at any time, regarding academics or personal issues. I think there are many exceptional teachers at this school as well. Many of the teachers that I had during my four years here got to know all of their students on an acadmeic level as well as knowing what major things are going on outside of school that may affect their performance. Oak Ceek also has many extracurricular activites from sports to academics. I highly recommend this school!
I think that some of the reviews from the former students are a little narrow and unfair. I graduated from OCHS last year and had an excellent high school experience. I am now at Marquette University and am now able to realize how lucky I was to have access to such a variety of courses and activities. The AP program is top-notch and will prove to be a valuable resource to college-bound students. If one wants to become involved, it is very easy to do so. The sports teams are amazing, but we also had one of the best band and drama programs in the area. I loved the faculty, especially the wonderful history department. You get out of the OCHS experience what you put into it. There is no reason not to succeed at this school.
I feel sorry for those who have had bad experiences at OC High. My oldest son went through (and graduated) the special Ed Dept. His teachers were in at least weekly contact with us and more often when needed. My youngest son is a student there currently. He is taking advance placement courses in a couple of subjects as well as doing Band and Extracurricular activities (ie. 3 different sports, Honor society, multicultural club, chess club, etc.) The school is diverse in academics and the choices the students have. One of his friends will almost have a college minor in math when he graduates because they do have the advanced math and history classes. The parents also have many chances for involvement. They only have to look and ask/ volunteer. There are also many parent advisory committees on which they can serve with the school or school board. Thanks.
I have a child with special needs. The communication between parent and teachers is basically non-existent. When you have a child with special needs communication with the home and school is essential. That is not the case at Oak Creek High. Teachers need to know if students have an IEP. I have found that this is not always the case here. I would give anything to pull my child and find a school in the area that understands learning disabilities and who has teachers that are capable of teaching kids with learning disabilities or have ADD or ADHD. Oak Creek is a great school for sports and thats wonderful. I just wish they cared enough about educating students as much as having the best teams.
I am a former student of this high school, and I would have to say it is horrible. As far as being a 'diverse' school I would have to say no. The school is mostly white with hardly any other minoritites. The teachers are very poor. I learned nothing while I was their. My brother who is in Special Ed, had a terrible education their. The teachers do not care about the needs of their students and disregard parent concern and envolvement. Many kids are harrassed due to the fact they are not white, are in special ed, and even for the stupid reason of being a 'freshmen' The principal is in denial about all the problems & my cousin graduated here unable to write a paper.
I agree somewhat with the opening statement. I love Oak Creek High, I am a current student there. I think our opinion is more important. Sorry dont take like Im disregarding your comments. I belive that wherever you go you can succeed. Regardless, OC is the best school I have been too, I use to like NYC and went to a minority school before. OC, wheather you like to admit it or not, is a racial school. Maybe not as racial as the opening statement put it out there but it is. to the drugs and alcohol situtation, theres more dealing and use of it here that in my school in NYC. Everyone does it here, and you are outcasted if you dont...so you do the math.
I am currently a student at oak creek high school. I think that the quality of the academic programs are outstanding compared to other schools. This school offers an amazing a ray of extracurricular activities that are for every kind of person. As for this school being racist, i would have to say that its so-so. The review that says that the only african-american person in the school is the vice principal is very naive. There are many races at oak creek high school which makes it such a diverse place. I think that if you want to send your child somewhere they can get an excellent education and make great friends on the way, send them to oak creek high school.
In english: This is a good school. En Espanol: Esto es una bien escuela. In Hmong : paz eh gh seaa ce pajoy.
School authorities are more in touch with the needs of the school board than with the needs of the students and their families.
I think it's a shame that the opening comment about this phenominal school has been made by someone who obviously has some personal issues with it. We have 2 OCHS students who entered the system after attending a pricey private school. Our family has been both impressed and satisfied with every aspect of this school. Academically and socially, this school we feel is one of the best in the state. The required and elective courses outnumber most other highschools and with the new additions and staff, we are more proud of our school than ever. Our children are involved in the school's outstanding athletic programs and I have been extremely happy with their policies re: intolerance of drugs and alcohol. Contrary to what the 1st poster said, we find OC to be extremely racially diversified. The only downfall we've noted is the acceptance of so many out~of~district residents into the school.
Oak Creek High is an exceptional school. It offers many after school activities, such as volleyball, basketball, a great football team, honors society, wrestling, and a nationally awarded cheerleading squad. They also have great class choices, including many electives.
I was disappointed at the narrow mindedness of the first comment on Oak Creek. It seems to have come from an ignorant and naive mother. I am a former student of Oak Creek and believe the school has a lot of positive aspects to offer a child. The school provides great opportunites to get involved. In addition, all races are accepted with open arms; in fact, I am Puerto Rican myself and race was not a factor of negative seperation in the school. Furthermore, the African-American Vice Principal is highly respected by all, and has received many awards for his outstanding leadership and positive influience in the school. As far as academics, Oak Creek has advanced placement programs that helped me excel in Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. When I went to a college with a harder curriculum, adjustment was not difficult because Oak Creek has great college preperation classes. Moreover, the high school offers many programs that allow a student to get involved. S.A.D.D (Students Against Drunk Driving) helps children be aware that drugs are out there but not everyone jumps on that bandwagon. The school also has many opportunities to get involed with the community and show school spirit such as Student Leadership programs, Volunteer programs and outstanding sport programs. Oak Creek offers great opportunites for students to fulfill their future dreams and help each individual make a beneficial difference in society.
