Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This school is amazing I would never take my child to another school. She always feels like she fits in and gets the help she needs.

This school has some major issues with discipline problems. The teachers are typically unaware of what is going on in their classrooms and hallways. The administration rarely takes corrective action with problem children and seems to have a head in the sand approach about what is going on. Students bring unapproved items to school like knives, cigarettes, or worse and flaunt them in front of other students with little regard for consequences. I am looking into moving my child to a neighboring school district as I do not see an interest by the school's leadership to make improvements.

I find it HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS that all the positive reviews were entered on the SAME DAY. TJ is decent, but not the best in the county or state as claimed by one "parent".

I think that this school is amazing. It's the longest I've ever stayed in the same district and the teachers are very helpful. Although some are strict, they're just doing their jobs. It has a lot of difficult students to put up with. I hav no idea how they do it! Cassi Pentony

As a family we looked at different schools within Ozaukee County and choose to use the 'School Choice Program'. We selected Thomas Jefferson Middle School for our son to attend. We chose this due to the school's wonderful academic and extra curricular activities. TJMS offered many more programs that would challenge him then his home school. He has been there 3 years and has had a very positive experience. His teachers went above and beyond to help him get acclimated and be a successful learner. There has been more than enough extra curricular activities for him to join, more than he could ever fit into his school day. All in all we would recommend Thomas Jefferson Middle school to anyone looking for a good quality school.

The administration constantly strives to insure that academic programs excell and continually look for ways to help struggling students. The variety of extracurricular activities and related arts programs is outstanding. We have a large and active parent group with monthly meetings and quarterly Family Night Forums - a family meal, parent group meeting and a speaker on a topic of interest to parents, homework help and recreational activities for the kids. There is no charge to attend. Thomas Jefferson Middle School was awarded the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award several years ago. And, as good as the school was then, it has only gotten better since that time!

Recently, I chaperoned a 5th grade field trip and was very pleased to hear several comments of praise for the behavior of the students by the historical society tour guides. Also, as a parent of a child in the TAG program, I am very satisfied with the assessments and procedures for my child's academic success. The administration is very open to communicate with parents. I especially enjoy the daily email announcements.

TJMS is a great school with a lot to offer every student. There are several clubs to join to student senate to a lot of sport teams. If your child cannot find an extra curricular activity to join that suites them, they are not looking. Our experience with the staff has been exceptional. Both of our children have prospered both academically and socially. Our family has been more than satisfied with TJMS.

Programs are setup to help all children based on their needs. Teachers go out of their way to help and work with the children. Parents are informed by email, snail mail and/or phone calls of progress your child is making. There is a strong parent organization. They are always looking at ways for everyone to enjoy their time at this school and minimize the cost to families. Extracurricular activities are open to all that are interested. This is what I have noticed and this is my child's first year.

My child has had a wonderful experience at TJ, for 3 years she has had outstanding teachers who have given her knowledge, self esteem and a very caring and safe atmosphere. They have something for every kind of student from athletic to service programs. The principal is committed to every student, and is involved in every aspect of the school. Port Washington is a wonderful community to raise your children.

My husband's job relocated us to the Port Washington area a year ago. I am a teacher, so a good school was the first priority in finding a new community. I have been so thrilled with the education and staff at TJ. Mr. Galarowicz continues to be an active, energetic leader who puts the students first! TJ offers so many ways to be involved for both students and parents that in no time at all,we felt at home here in Port. I am so thankful for the great education and experiences that my children are receiving. Keep up the great job!!

I have had three children attend TJ middle school each child had his own needs as well as different ares of interest. The Tag Art program has been truly as asset to my childs development. The choices for extra curricular activities are spectatular from Video Productions,Year book staff to Builders Club and sports etc... When it comes to extra help with special needs we have awesome technology at the children's finger tips. My child has benefit from Read180 and Fast track math programs. The summer school program is far the best in the county maybe even the state.

Teachers are very informative to parents on the academics and performance of our children. Teaching is perfomed a high standard of professionalism w/ non bias approach as well as a unilateral way. the school offers quite a few extracurricular activites to the students. Safety is the upmost important area to parent and the school is very informative if any concerns arise. very appreciative to the staff and academic standards at TJMS.

We decided to move our 8th grader last year from a very good local Catholic school to TJ and have been overwhelmingly pleased. Our child had wanted a change and has fit in extremely well. The teaching staff is top notch and as well, our child has been able to take two high school classes this year based on test scores. The school pays much more than average attention to academics, and extracurriculars are well rounded and highly competitive. We recommend TJ with great enthusiasm.

I believe that Thomas Jefferson Middle School is a great school because they take the time to help children be at their best and to do the best that they can. The programs that the school offers are wonderful. There is a variety of them and the children can choose what best fits them and their ability. There are enough extracurricular activities that will keep the kids out of trouble and doing something productive. The level of parent involvement is wonderful and it is nice to see after coming from South Milwaukee and not knowing what to expect.

The school has a program to identify and encourage the top students as well as programs to help those who are in need of extra help to keep up. Summer school programs are popular with the students. The music program is top notch. There extracurecular activities the kids love. Sports, clubs and volunteer groups such as Kiwanis Builders club. The Principal is liked by the students and he has an open door policy. He is always ready to listen. Many Teachers are involved beyond the class room.

I had trouble feeling like part of a community at TJ - compared to my experience at Dunwiddie Elementary School. Teachers were less willing to talk with me about my child. I understand that the kids need to become more independent but there was a rough transition from the elementary school and middle school.

My son is a 7th grader who began at TJ this year. He is an excellent student who was ready for a new school adventure, and TJ has provided him with an awesome one! Our entire family is pleased with every aspect of this school. Administrators, teachers and staff members provide a high-quality, thorough, well-rounded, caring, enthusiastic and inspiring learning environment. They communicate well and often with students and parents. We especially appreciate the e-mail systems for progress reports, parent-teacher communications and daily school news. In addition to the high-quality classroom experiences, TJ offers a large number and wonderful variety of extracurricular activities. These programs are well-staffed and well-run. TJ is an excellent school!

As a teacher in a different district, I feel that this school lacks opportunities for students who are not athletic and who have different interests. This school also needs to strengthen their special needs programs for students. Different learning styles are not taken into account. Though their fine arts (music, choir, and art) along with tech ed and FACE are exceptional.

I think that TJ middle school has an awesome staff and lots of great programs. My son struggled in the beginning of the year and all of his teachers and the Principal rallied around him and now he is doing awesome. He would not be where he is today with the support of the faculty.

I am very happy with everything about TJMS. The teachers we have been involved with are very caring and very approachable either by phone, email or in person and we always recieve a very timely response. The activities at the school are available to everyone no matter what. There are some try outs for certain teams but everyone is allowed to try out. There are many extra activities that are available to everyone and the principal through the teachers and other staff try to get everyone involved. My kids have received a great education through TJ as well as other Port washington saukville schools. The school keeps you up to date and everything through daily emails. I feel my kids are as safe there as any other school. The principal is excellent and VERY involved and seems to know every student and parent by name

The teachers, guidance dept, principal have been great through 4 years of school. We have a child with some special needs. When we had difficulty, they were there to help us out. There is always going to be a teacher that doesn't work, but that's when the principal steps in to help. They have a lot of extracurricular programs to include music, sports, chess, video clubs etc etc. I do not really know how many parents get involved. There obviously are quite a few or they would not be able to have all these programs. This is my last of 4 children & this is the best school district we have ever been in. Another child has special needs & they didn't want to help.

Poor academic programs. Teachers do not appear to be involved or care. Some extracurricular activities available but only to a few students. Teachers are difficult to approach and often not willing to help.
