The original intent of this school, which was to be a school steeped in classical curriculum and Catholic tradition, is likely an unattainable goal at this stage due to the almost 100% low-income, minority population attending the school on vouchers, which makes successful implementation of a classical curriculum very difficult, if not impossible, given the basic academic struggles of the students that need to be addressed. Additionally, a school without the Catholic mass and sacraments can not truly function as a school in the Catholic tradition, and at this point, it seems almost certain the Milwaukee archbishop will continue his ban on this school having mass, etc. St. John Fisher has MANY kinks to work out as a voucher start-up, not the least being the administration having the ability to stick with stated principles, plans, and student expectations. For now, the school is being sold as one thing, when in reality it's quite another. That being said, the administration does appear to have the right spirit and intent if they can focus on the students, rather than expanding too quickly or getting mired in archdiocesan politics. Advice: Wait and see.
