My daughter is in her second year at New Century School, and we absolutely love it. The multi-age classrooms, small class size, and flexible teaching style are a perfect fit for her. She's learning to think creatively and look at problems from different angles, all while learning the important basic skills of elementary school. I also love the many opportunities for parent and family involvement in the school. My preschool-aged daughter is welcome to join me when I volunteer, and she will be well prepared for Kindergarten because she is already comfortable in the school environment and knows many of the teachers. We love everything about New Century!
New Century represents the community in which I want to raise my children. My daughter transitioned from a family-environment pre-school to a family-environment elementary school. I loved the idea of New Century when I first learned of it, but it has far exceeded my expectations. From the quality of the teachers, the uniquely interwoven curriculum, the friendliness of all staff to the unbelievable support of the New Century family. We are home.
For several years our family applied for Open Enrollment into the VSD, finally It happened for the 2010-2011 school year!. Our children were assigned to New Century Charter School; our oldest was a 5th grader our youngest a 2nd grader. The transition went really well, friends were quickly made, they felt very welcomed and at home. The teachers and the principals made things really easy for us. We loved the smaller setting, smaller mixed age classes (16 students). This setting was particularly beneficial for my son who had been "getting lost" among a much lager class (27!!) at his former school. He started doing extremely well under more supervision We have enjoyed our family's experience at NCS very much!!!
We couldn't have asked for a better school for our daughter! New Century School offers a wonderful "hand-on" learning environment that extends beyond the walls of the school and takes the kids out into the world around them incorporating aspects of the community and environment as a base for all areas of learning. The way the teachers connect the core subjects (reading, writing, math, science) to each other via the environmental themes is fantastic and the fact that teachers use ideas and questions introduced by the students to help guide their learning is what seems to really get the kids excited about what they are doing and more engaged in what they are learning. I wish New Century School had a middle school program so we could take advantage of this wonderful school for even longer!
My daughter goes to NCS and thoroughly enjoys the atmosphere and the personal attention she receives from the teachers. All teachers are committed to ensuring her academic and personal development. The energy and involvement of the parents and teachers creates a wonderful learning environment. The school has also continued to innovate by incorporating a scoially-relevant green charter.
The best possible learning environment for my kid. New Century is the reason we moved to this school district.
My son loves attending NCS. We love the small size, hands-on learning, mixed age classrooms, and a real feeling of a community between parents, teachers & students.
