My boys have the opportunity to learn in an environment that is positive and encouraging. They go to school each day looking forward to what they are going to learn and held responsible to help the learning process take place. Getting them ready for the real world.
This was the worst year of my child's life. Six weeks into the year, his teacher suddenly quit. Four months later, her replacement suddenly quit. Administration refused to answer questions as to why this happened. The third teacher of the year might as well have been a babysitter, for the lack of teaching that went on.
As a parent of TSHST, I am continually impressed with the integration of technology and science in their regular studies. I really value the mulitage classrooms, and have watched my child learn from his peers as well as develop leadership skills. I am amazed by our teachers for their energy and passion in connecting with each student. We feel very fortunate to have our child enrolled in Wauwatosa's first charter school.
The passion, energy and experience of the teachers/parents at this school is truly special. They have created an environment of independance and curiousity while setting very high standards for their students. The teacher's passion for learning has rubbed off on my son and they have laptops in the room to utilize for projects. My son is happy to have transferred here because he is reading better (the teachers are reading specialists), learning tons on fieldtrips, and enjoys being in a multiage classroom. There is a lot of group work and the youngers learn from the older kids, while the olders have a chance to mentor. It's not a traditional learning environment but his test scores are improving so it's working for him!
