It appears that reading scores are consistently depressed. The question: Is this due to ESL students who have not caught up with their English 1st peers....Or is it due to the rigidity of the reading approach? Something professionals should ask.
The teachers my grand child has had at Wilson Elementary, West Allis, WI keep her in active learning mode by using verbal and non verbal cues in well structured learning environments. Each student is allowed to show their 'best' each day and rewards for appropriate behavior are valued and used school wide. I feel like there is no "bell curve" at school...each child is supported so he/she performs in the upper half. I am a retired special education teacher from a different district.
Teachers always are so happy, kids love to go to school!!! There programs are wonderful, and they set a lively, fun approach to learning!!!
I worked at Wilson's after-school program. Although I only had first hand daily interaction with some of the students, I was also able to get a glimpse of the attitudes of the teachers, parents, and other students who did not attend the afterschool program. The atmosphere of the school is very welcoming and it appears to be a very tight-knit community. The teachers and staff were very friendly and helpful when it came to special events for the after-school program. I loved working here and would hope to be able to return again next year.
I love Wilson Elementary School, because it has some of the best teachers, the best principal, and no matter what your child's abilities there is someone there to help them succed.
Both of my daughters have attended Wilson and are doing very well academically. Wilson School just won The Blue Ribbon award for academic achievement. The teachers and principal are great.
