The teachers are very dedicated and knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. My son attended Buffalo High School and had a great experience and is now attending the University of Wyoming. He took Science, Math through Calculus, History, Literature, and 4 years of Spanish. He took wood shop, CAD, and metal shop as extracurricular courses. He played football and basketball. The school offers many art classes, chorus, jazz band and marching band. The band marched and played in the Macy's parade two years ago. They have summer travel programs to various countries each summer through the foreign language department. The Speech and Debate team always has participants in the state competition and usually has several students participating at the national level. This is a very caring community with great schools and I highly recommend it as a place to raise your children.
My kids do well in this school and get good grades. However, my concerns are bullying, racism, discrimination and student alcohol and drug abuse that is prevalent. It is so bad that in this small town a police officer is parked in the parking lot on a daily basis. Test scores continue to drop, and I am concerned that my kids will not have the education they need when they proceed to college. All focus is on sports, with little funding going to the arts.
Buffalo High School is a school focused on the learning of its students. The small town feel makes the atmosphere friendly and less competitive. This is a high achieving, goal focused, well maintained school that welcomes newcomers, and has high expectations from all students.
