My rating is based on how their preschool wait list is handled. Their preschool is funded with grant money from the state. With money coming from the taxpayer, you would think that priority would go to those with low income and on a first come, first serve basis. This is not the case - at least not completely. The teacher of the preschool program does make sure that she fulfills the requirements for lower income families to maintain her grant status, but beyond that, she will provide her close personal friends with the remaining spots by giving them insider information regarding deadlines and availability of paperwork and registration. It's not right, and it provides some specially selected families with primary status - all on the taxpayers dime.
I like everything about this school. I like most the fact that teachers care. My son is happy to go to school. He is learning. He can make his home works. At first grade, he can read. Thank you teachers.
Kudos to this school. The principle has great leadership and that says it all!!
Having the opportunity to substitute teach all through the district, one can sense the 'difference' in the atmosphere when you walk into Slade Elementary. Students are happy to be in school, teachers care, administration is actively involved and parents are a regular ammenity to the classrooms. Kudos to the principal at Slade for creating such a unified and team environment, our children are flourishing at this school.
Teachers really care about the individual students and their education. Music is encourage along with a great variety of art programs. My daughter loves it at Slade and is doing quite well. The activities provided during and after school have a high parent involvement which encourages all. We love it.
A very family oriented school. Teachers and the Pricipal know all the children. Principal is very active in all classrooms. Parent support is unbelieveable and understanding to those who can't spend as much time there. Music teacher and Art teacher both are outstanding. They teach alot of life skills through out the hall ways, bullying, how to meet people the proper way and safety is a huge concern. Academicly, my children have really grown at this school, they seem to teach at what level the child is at, but no child is left behind. Very loving school and enviroment! Highly recommend!
