I worked as a teacher for children with cognitive and physical disabilities for ten years. I noticed that GS did not seem to have a group for parents of children with physical disabilities. So i started one. Please write about any difficulties you may be having getting your child's needs met in school. Or how you solved these problems.
Congrats on your new site. I am sure it will be greatly appreciated by parents who have no where else to post regarding "other " disabilities. What would you consider "physical" disabilities? I would not want to post about something not intended for this group.45172
i will look up the exact definition of a physical disability. however even if a person does not fit into this exact definition of physical disabilities. if one is having a problem in this general area please fell free to post.45173

My names Amanda; I'm so nerves sending my daughter Jordan to preschool. I believe shes ready, but I still dunno. She was diagnosed with (PFFD). If you are not aware of the meaning of her Diagnoses, She wears a prosthetic leg on her left side. She really never gets the chance to spend time with children her age. I just dunno how she'll do. We just moved here in Fort Eustis this Month. Shes three years old. I already had taught her everthing so far from ( ABC's, Numbers, Correspondence, and writing letter) If theres anyone out there who could or what to chat let me know. I'm still getting use to the surroundings here . I also have no Idea how the preschools around here are..? Does anyone?45176
hi onetruwmn Welcome to Great Schools i hope you will enjoy this sight. i am not familiar with where you live so i can not answer your questions about schools. i live in chicago il. are you considering a preschool for children with disabilities? or a reg ed school? i am assuming the school will need to be handicapped accessible.
there is a new preschool feature on Great Schools. just click the preschool button on the green bar above you.
There also a group called parents of pre-schoolers. http://community.greatschools.net/groups/11534
Also there is a group called learning and attention difficulties. from what you told me it does not sound like your daughter has any issues in this area but this group has many knowledgeable people who may be able to answer your questions.
also in chicago there are special recreational activities and camps for students with physical disabilities. you may want to look into this in your area.
i am a mother of a pre-schooler also and i know it is scarey sending your child to school for the first time.
Please keep in touch and let us know how your daughter is doing.

I have a son in 5th grade with mild cerebral palsy. I am worried about middle school. I don't know how he is going to maneuver the steps, halls etc. The peer pressure is getting bad at this age and on anticipate it getting worse. Private school in not in our budget. Any incite anyone can offer will be helpful.45181
