feedebear,

i am sorry.

no i don`t. but maybe i can help. what is your specific question? in a previous post you said he was not getting the assistance he needs. you were considering another school. children with physical disabilities have certain rights. does your son have a 504 plane or an IEP?

a 504 plan lists accommodations that need to be made for your child. An IEP is an Individualized Educational Plan that lists short and long term goals for your child as well as accommodations that are needed.

Please got to the "Learning and Attention Difficulties" group and ask. How to start the process to get a 504 plan or an IEP

I was a special education teacher and a foster parent i have always dealt with students who already have had an IEP in place. I am not sure what to do to start the process.

Make your request in writing for a full evaluation. You may wish to bring any relevant information regarding your child's physical, emotional, and/or learning conditions from any professional evaluations that have already been performed. Here are some articles that might be of assistance:

I would suggest checking out the 504 Overview by Wrightslaw & Schwablearning.org, @ www.kyspin.com/info_library.cfm Also A Parent's Guide to Section 504 @ www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/showarticle/2777
The Americans with Disabilities Act was just amended which should increase access to Section 504 services for some students. See www.copaa.org/news/adaamendmentsact.html for information on how this change could affect 504.

I do not have a child with muscular dystrophy however I am a nurse and I've been doing home care on my darling little patient who is going to be 19 next month. She is the most beautiful little girl that I've ever laid eyes on. Her mother feels truly blessed and I feel blessed as well for getting to know her.

I spoke to my little darlings mom and she may be able to assist with any of the questions regarding school, IEP's and services. She's an awesome mom. My little darling wasn't supposed to make it past 5 or so years ago and she's still plugging along making us all feel loved by her. It's very hard on her parents but they live in today and they really are wonderful with her. That mom is so in tune with that little girl...I've never seen anything like it.
