We are moving to the Eagle Harbor area of Carrollton, VA this summer from San Diego, CA. Our 4 kids will be attending the area schools. Smithfield Middle and High, Westside Elementary, and Carrollton Elementary. Everything about the neighborhood seems great, except the proximity to these schools. We chose the area because it will be a short commute for my husband up in Newport News, but I'm starting to have second thoughts. Any insight to this area would be greatly appreciated!
We recently moved here in the summer and have REALLY enjoyed this area. The people are super-friendly and it has a quaint small town feel. The only thing that took getting used to was the drive for big name stores like Walmart, Target, etc. Eagle Harbor is very close to Carrollton, easy drive and there isn't a whole lot of traffic to contend with. If you are using a bus, the bus for the elementary school does come rather early and they can be on there for up to 30 minutes before arriving at school. I drive my kids and it's only a 10 minute drive from my house. Smithfield High and Smithfield Middle are right next to each other and aren't far from Carrollton - maybe 5 to 7 minutes down the street. The furthest school away would be Westside. From Eagle Harbor, it's probably at least 15 to 20 minutes since it's a bit further into Smithfield heading towards Windsor. Eagle Harbor is one of three main neighborhoods you hear a lot about and it's pretty centrally located to everything. There are also a TON of kids that live in those neighborhoods that attend each of these schools. Hope that helps a little!82609
